This is the most extensively used fabrication method to manufacture the nanofibers into several constructive forms such as non-woven textile mats, oriented fibrous bundles and dimensional structured scaffolds. These materials, due to their enhanced properties, have applications in specific areas like in technical textiles, medical textiles, protective materials, energy storage devices, agriculture, electricals and optics, etc. Cellulose being an abundant, biodegradable and biocompatible polymer, creates great interest among the researchers. The wide range of applications also creates great scope for cellulosic nanofibers in nanotextiles. This study deals with the past and present research of electrospinning of cellulose and future scope of the same. Note de contenu : - ELECTROSPINNING

Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The sulfonated cardo poly(aryl ether sulfone) with zwitterionic side groups (PES-DS-70) was electrospun to bead-free nanofibers. The PES-DS-70 nanoporous mat was successfully filled with Nafion solution. Scanning electron microscopy observed that the PES-DS-70/Nafion composite membrane has bilayer morphology and good interfacial compatibility. Compared with the neat PES-DS-70, the PES-DS-70/Nafion bilayer membranes showed improved swelling resistance and proton conductivity. Moreover, methanol crossover of the composite film was suppressed due to incorporation of the PES-DS-70 nanofibers. The tensile strength and Young's modulus for the PES-DS-70/Nafion composite membranes were higher than Nafion117. Therefore, the composite membrane with superior combined properties has potential applications for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Twin screw extruders (TSE) are widely used in polymer blending and compounding operations, since the relatively high stresses they impart on melts and controllable residence times make them highly suitable for mixing operations. However, the mixing action in the industry-standard kneading blocks (KB) is shear-dominated and shear flows are inefficient for dispersive mixing compared with extensional flows. A novel static extensional mixing element (EME) was developed recently by our group with the objective of providing extension-dominated flow during blending and compounding. Dispersive mixing in the EME is provided by flow through stationary hyperbolic converging-diverging (C-D) channels placed along the screw. The improvements in dispersive mixing for immiscible blends using EMEs with wide hyperbolically channels, i.e., low contraction ratios, has been proved. In this work, we begin by performing computational investigations of more extreme contraction geometries to determine the design flexibility limits for the EME. The contractions again showed more extension-dominated flow patterns than the original EME, the drawback being the obvious increase in the pressure drop. However, at extremely high contraction ratios, the entry angle is so shallow that recirculation zones appear at the entrance, which are undesirable, implying that there are geometrical limits above which the EME ceases to be an effective dispersive mixer. Next, experimental validation on the EMEs with different degrees of aggressiveness of the C-D channel were performed and dramatic improvement in droplet breakup (dispersive mixing) in case of immiscible blends is clearly observed at all viscosity ratios and with increasing degree of EME aggressiveness. In order to achieve some optimum key properties such as high and broadband microwave absorbing properties, low density, and relatively low cost, a gradient structure and alternating multilayer structure are used simultaneously. The effect of a single layer containing one type of filler, single layer containing several types of fillers, and multilayer structures on mentioned key parameters are investigated. The electromagnetic parameters and the reflection loss (RL) versus frequency of samples were tested by network analyzer in the range of 2–18 GHz using the transmission/reflection method. As a final result, the multilayer MACs included nine layers in which each of the layers contained one type of the fillers (CNT, CI, and SiC) and three neat resin interlayers 2 mm in total thickness compared to other samples and provided a maximum return loss value of 17.6 dB at 08.50 GHz and an absorption bandwidth (RL < − 5 dB) of 16 GHz (2–18 GHz) with a density of 1.61 g/cm3. So, it is simply possible to obtain an efficient MAC due to suitable microwave absorbing filler distribution in multilayer coatings for any respective application.

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer (EMA), for the first time, was melt blended with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) by a twin-screw extruder to toughen PLA. The phase morphologies, mechanical, and rheological properties of the PLA/EMA blends with six weight ratios were investigated. The results showed that the addition of EMA improves the toughness of PLA at the expense of the tensile strength, flexural strength and modulus to a certain degree, and results in the transition from brittle fracture of PLA into ductile fracture. The droplet-matrix morphology is observed in the PLA/EMA blends, in which the mean diameter of EMA droplets increases and its distribution widens gradually with increasing the EMA content. The PLA/EMA blends with three weight ratios (90/10, 80/20, and 70/30) display different characteristic linear viscoelastic properties in the low frequency region, which were investigated in terms of their complex viscosity, storage modulus, and Cole-Cole plots. The interfacial tension between the PLA and EMA is calculated using the Palierne model conducted on the 80/20 PLA/EMA blend, and the calculated result is 3.3 mN/m.
