Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A simple method of analysis is described in which ordinary absorption spectroscopy is employed to measure dye content within cellulose triacetate fibres in order to determine the rate of dyeing for triacetate fabric immersed in infinite dyebaths at various temperatures. The results are analysed to yield values for the activation energy and enthalpy change associated with the transfer of a dye, Disperse Red 13, from a saturated dyebath to the interior of triacetate fibres immersed in that bath. Varying levels of ambient humidity were applied and had a dramatic effect on the drying rate, drying mechanism, and final film thermal and mechanical properties. At humidities below 30%, the drying curves followed a power law time decay with two distinguishable regions. The first region showed a drying rate dependence on the order of t^-10, while the second region showed a drying rate dependence on the order of t^-2. At higher humidities, the curves become more complex. At the highest humidities, film cracking was observed. Besides dielectric analysis, thermal analysis experiments were conducted that indicated film formation continues over very long times (months). The data also indicate that considerable residual stress remains in the dried films even after these long times. In this research, the experimental investigations have been done by applying forced spreading of several polyethylene-glycol/water mixtures in different weight ratios on Teflon plates and ultra-hydrophobic sprayed glass substrates. Hydrodynamics theory and molecular-kinetic theory have been applied to investigate the dynamics of wetting on these substrates. It has been found that the dynamics of receding motion of liquid contact line on ultra-hydrophobic surfaces could be described perfectly with the molecular-kinetic theory. In the case of advancing motion on an ultra-hydrophobic surface, dynamic contact angle is independent of liquid contact line velocity. The advancing and receding motions of liquid contact line on smooth Teflon plates followed molecular-kinetic theory. In this study, polyol was studied as a diluent for formulations containing cycloaliphatic epoxide and oxetane in order to evaluate the effect on coatings properties and curing kinetics. The addition of polyol was shown to have an effect on both mobility of the cation as a chain transfer agent, along with the more general effect of flexibility, as evidenced by the hardness data, which increased when a small amount of polyol was added, but decreased as more polyol was included in the formulation. In terms of crosslinking kinetics, it was found that the inclusion of polyol resulted in an increase in conversion during UV irradiation. The level of polyol also had an effect on other properties, such as Tg and crosslink density.
