Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP) in the form of continious fibre-reinforced thermoplastics composites exhibit a great potential for mass production of complex, load-bearing and recyclable components in automotive and mechanical engineering.
The use of thermoplastics matrix materials makes it possible to manufacture lightweight, high-quality complex-shape composites cost-efficiently and with high productivity. To ensure the demanded short cycle times while simultaneously guaranteeing highly specific properties of structural components, the most suitable method is hot pressing, using deep drapable multilayers and 3D-shaped thermoplastic preforms based on thermoplastic hybrid yarns. The advantages of glass fibre/PP hybrid yarns are their homogenous combination of continuous filaments, as well as their great yarn compaction, which permits further textile technological processing. Commercially available yarn materials can be used in widely varying forms, and the individual intra-yarn content percentages can be ajusted to preference oven an exrensive range. 3D-shaped multilayer woven fabrics are suited for the reinforcement od higher-gauge FRP due to the use of thicker and preferably compact fabrics, as their multilayers structure helps minimase the usual stacking of multiple individual reinforcement layers. In this study, hybrid yarns and composite sheets made of multilayers woven fabtics are tested according to their mechanical properties.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Hybrid yarn manufacturing - Weaving technology for 3D-multilayer woven spacer fabric - Thermoforming process

les polyoléfines thermoplastiques semi-cristallines : polyéthylène (PE), polypropylène (PP), polyméthylpentène (PMP), polybutène-1 (PB-1) ;

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This study treats the transport of solvents in a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) and influence on mechanical bulk properties. The selected substrate and solvents represent materials used in coatings on plastics. The swelling of TPO was found to depend on the temperature and, in accordance with Hansen’s concept of solubility, revealing the following order of swelling power for solvent types: aromatic hydrocarbons ≫ esters > alcohols. Absorption of TPO by the solvent xylene at 20 and 80°C allowed for the calculation of a diffusion coefficient. Complete release of xylene was found to last several months. Recovered TPO samples were of slightly lower weight, reduced E-modulus and tensile strength compared to the original state. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Methods and materials

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Since leather is sold by the square foot, destructive tests lessen the square footage of the material and infringe on the leather manufacturer's total profit. Therefore there is a need for developing an instrument to perform nondestructive testing of the physical properties of leather. In this investigation, experiments were designed to pass leather test samples through a pair of rotational acoustic sensors, thereby enabling the collection of acoustic emission (AE) signals from both the grain and corium and provide a more accurate assessment of the quality of leather. Observations showed a strong correlation between the mechanical properties of leather and the corresponding cumulative acoustic energy. We also used this dynamic method to characterize the grain break of leather. Results showed that the difference in grain break could be determined form the amount of acoustic hits collected from moving the AE sensors over a leather sample. Observations showed the poorer the grain break ; the more AE energy was detected. Data also demonstrated that thicker samples tended to have poorer grain break. In short, this study demonstrated that the tensile strength, stiffness, toughness ans grain break could be nondestructively determined by measuring acoustic quantities with a pair of rotational sensors. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Natural leather is the oldest fibre which has been used by man since early times. In recent times, interest has increased in introducing smart properties to natural leather, giving it practical and economic importance. Recently, finishing, the purpose of which is to produce different leather types to meet consumer requirements has become focused on giving the leather properties that make it an advanced material with smart applications. The aim of this work is to produce superior quality leather that would upgrade its value in performance via nano metal oxide treatment. This aim has been followed by synthesising zinc oxide nanoparticles via green chemistry which is then loaded into sheep leather. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesised zinc oxide nanoparticles have been investigated by SEM and XRD. The SEM, EDX, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) study, and tensile properties determination were undertaken, to see if any significant structural or chemical differences could be detected between ʻuntreatedʼ and ʻtreatedʼ leather. From the various analyses, it was ascertained that the nanoparticles were successfully deposited on the leather surface. The study thus provides an eco-friendly method for zinc oxide nanoparticle synthesis which can then be utilised for finishing sheep leather for creating functional properties.
