Revêtements -- Additifs:Peinture -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Biocides are an important ingredient for in-can preservation of water-based paints, as the authors explains.
There has been a continuous increase in the toxicological, ecological and regulatory demands in the use of in-can biocides in the paint industry. Toxic components, such as heavy metals, xhich were once part of paint formulations, have already been banned in most countries. Many existing actives, such as formaldehyde, have been gradually phased out of the system. Biocide manufacturers are facing increased expectations over 'sustainable antimicrobials' in recent times.Note de contenu : - Microbial problems associated with paints

The corn silk was first dried under sunlight, powdered and dispersed into the homogeneous solution using sodium hydroxide/ urea at a boil. Zinc acetate and a cationic surfactant along with the polyester fabric were placed in the alkali solution with or without corn silk at a boil for 1 hour. Very good antimicrobial properties against P. aeruginosa were obtained on the fabric containing corn silk/zinc oxide composites close to 100 and 87 %, respectively. Finally, the application of corn silk along with a synthesis of ZnO particles introduced a novel polyester fabric with antimicrobial, highly hydrophilic properties. Revêtements en phase aqueuse -- Additifs:Peinture en phase aqueuse -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nanostructured materials have become increasingly widespread, and in recent decades, the processing industries have shown a great interest in coating materials with antibacterial properties. In this research, the biocidal effect of silver nanoparticles in the water-soluble polyurethane paint composition was evaluated. Silver nanoparticles in the aqueous phase were prepared by chemical reduction at 500 ppm using polyvinyl alcohol. The material was characterized by UV–Vis, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, and transmission electron microscopy. The effect of silver nanoparticles in terms of yellowing and gloss variation was evaluated by a UV-B radiation test. Silver nanoparticles had no effect on the gloss and yellowing paint film. In addition, positive results were obtained for the protection and resistance against bacteria but not satisfactory resistance against fungi.
