Note de contenu : - LE CO2 : UN SOLVANT VERT

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Poly(β-hydroxybutyrate)-co-poly(β-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) loaded with 1 to 10 wt.% of cork microparticles (CM) were manufactured via compression molding technique. CM were isolated by alkali, bleaching and acid hydrolysis treatments. They were then added to the PHBV matrices via solution casting technique. The filler microparticles showed typical diameters of 10 to 55 μm. Mechanical tests in tension showed that in PHBV containing 5 wt.% CM the Young's modulus and the tensile strength increased by 50% and 10% respectively. Meanwhile, the elongation at break decreased by 70% for the same CM content. The mechanical behavior of the reinforced composites was discussed in conjunction with the morphology of the samples studied by optical and electron microscopy. The temperature of initial degradation Tid, the temperature at 5% weight loss Td5% and the temperature of maximum degradation Tdmax increase with increasing CM content by up to 13.6°C, 10.1°C and 12.3°C respectively for the composite of 5 wt.%. The composite with 10 wt.% CM content showed the best thermal stability with temperature increments of 20°C, 14.1°C and 21.5°C respectively. DSC results showed that the presence of CM has a very weak influence on the melting/crystallization behavior of the composites. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with various shapes and size was prepared using CaCl2 and Na2CO3 aqueous solutions containing various additives. High density polyethylene (HDPE)/4 wt% CaCO3 composites were prepared using a Haake Rotational Rheometer. The effects of the CaCO3 particle shapes and size on the thermal and mechanical properties were investigated and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and universal testing machine. The results show the addition of CaCO3 to HDPE can increase the crystallization and decrease the melting temperature and crystallization temperature. The tensile yield strength of the composites was higher than that of HDPE. Sphere-like CaCO3 is the best form in improving the thermal stability and cubic CaCO3 can cause negative effect to the toughness. The impact strength of the composites is significantly increased with decreasing CaCO3 particle size. SEM examination of the fractured surfaces of the composites shows that CaCO3 reacted in cavitations and "lance" functions which increase the impact strength of the HDPE/CaCO3 composites. Polymérisation en émulsionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Styrene-acrylic resin encapsulated C.I. Pigment Yellow 17 (PY17) and charge control agent (CCA) multicomponent composite particles were prepared by mini-emulsion polymerization. The characterization results of transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and centrifugal sedimentation experiments all verified the encapsulation of PY17 and CCA. The effect of PY17 and CCA dosages on the morphology of multicomponent particles and influence of compound emulsifier dosage on the emulsion stability and the dispersity of latex particles were studied. When the mass fractions of monomers, PY17, CCA, and compound emulsifiers relative to deionized water were 5, 0.4, 0.1, and 0.375%, respectively, the emulsion showed excellent stability; meanwhile, the latex particles had a clear core–shell structure and the best dispersity. The average size of the multicomponent particles changed slightly with the different dosages of PY17, CCA, and compound emulsifiers. Colorimetric analysis of the samples indicated that encapsulation of PY17 may lead to a decrease in yellow value b* but had little effect on its tinctorial strength. StyrèneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of core-shell polymeric particles with poly(n-butyl acrylate-co-methacrylic acid-co-ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate) as core and poly(styrene-co-methyl methacrylate) as shell were prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization. The role of ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate (EGDMA) is to crosslink the core so as to avoid any probability of gel formation and to bind both the core and the shell phase together. The spherical morphology of the core-shell structure was achieved at 60:40 core to shell ratio. The core-shell morphology was confirmed by SEM and TEM analyses. GPC analysis of the particles reveals that the polymer shows a bimodal mode. The first peak has Mw = 382700 and Mn = 245200 with polydispersity index of 1.6, and the second peak has Mw = 21200 and Mn = 14800 with polydispersity index of 1.4. These core-shell latexes were applied as a pigment/binder in emulsion paint and the paint properties like gloss, rock hardness, washability, opacity, etc. were compared with the standard. The results show that these core-shell latexes can provide similar hiding power with 17% reduction of TiO2 in the paint formulation.
