Stress -- Médecines alternativesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The positive effect of aromatherapy on humans has been known for a long time. The effect is essentially based on the stimulation of the olfactory receptors in the nose. Certain smells have a relaxing and stress-reducing effect. Recent research has shown that the skin also has olfactory receptors and even bitter receptors that can be activated with appropriate molecules. In the keratinocytes, differentiation and maturation are thus stimulated via an induced influx of calcium. Here we show how a cosmetic active ingredient with a pleasant fragrance profile both reduces stress, detected by measuring stress hormones, and positively influences the skin by activating bitter receptors. RelaxationIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : In the following article we will show that the aroma of coconut oil significantly improves the stressed mental state. Edible coconut oil and a synergistic blend of edible coconut oil and essential oils (bergamot, rosemary and lavender oil) showed a significant improvement in the performance of the alpha wave frequency band, which means a relaxation benefit. We will go into detail about the conduct of the study and its results. Note de contenu : - ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY

Solubilisants (chimie)Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Natural and sustainable ingredients are one of the key drivers behind the growth of the global personal care and cosmetics market. Stephenson’s naturally derived Durosoft® esters are a range of COSMOS approved, 100 % natural, RSPO certified and palm free emulsifiers, surfactants, emollients and solubilisers that can be used in a variety of cosmetic and personal care applications. In this article, we will discuss the solubilizing property of Durosoft PG10CY, a natural solubiliser of fragrances and essential oils.
Solubilizers are needed to incorporate fragrances and/or essential oils in cosmetics. The performance of Durosoft PG10CY was compared in parallel to Polysorbate 20, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil as well another commercially available natural solu-biliser. The fragrances and essential oils selected are based on Michael Edward’s fragrance wheel, and tested at different ratios: 10 :1, 5 :1 and 3 :1 ratios.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Michael Edwards fragrance wheel

Produits capillairesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The current demands of the global market aiming to a more sustainable way of life is pushing cosmetic industry towards a major change regarding raw materials and production practices. Essential oils from aromatic and medicinal plants have been used for cosmetic purposes since ancient times, as their bioactive compounds are responsible for some important biological activities. Nowadays, the interest for essential oils is steadily rising and their use as natural bioactive ingredients or as antimicrobial factors in cosmetic formulations has increased. Although the origin of essential oils is natural, their sustainability is often questioned due to non-cost effective production processes. In this paper we present the potential uses of essential oils as ingredients in cosmetics in a more holistic way and we try to draw the line between the terms “natural” and "sustainable". Note de contenu : - Essential oils from aromatic plants : Antimicrobial activity - Antioxidant activity
