RhéologieIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Thus it can be concluded that addition of plasticizer can reduce spinneret head pressure, but lack of continuous phase causes low melt strength of polymer. Increasing PLA concentration forms a continuous phase in polymer, and melt spinning is enables.
Based on these results, it can be concluded that a polymer blend of PLA : PBAT : plasticizer in ratio 66.5 : 32.3 : 1.2, can be spun at 250 m/min and filament tenacity of 5 cN/tex can be achieved. For further improvement in melt spinnability and filament properties, PLA concentration in the blend must be increased.Note de contenu : - MATERIAL AND EXPERIMENTAL PART

Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Polypropylene (PP)/ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM)/ graphene nanosheets (GNs) were compounded by a two-step melt mixing process via an internal mixer (brabender plasticorder). The effect of GNs, graphene oxide (GOSs) and graphene oxide functionalized with PP chains (PP-g-GOSs) on various blend properties were investigated. Wide X-ray diffraction (WAXD) patterns and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of the prepared nanocomposites revealed that the nanofillers were mostly dispersed into the PP phase and the dispersion state of GNs was improved with functionalization of graphene. SEM photomicrographs indicated that rubber droplets were distributed in the PP phase and a reduction of the dispersed EPDM droplet size was observed most likely due to increase in the viscosity of the PP-phase during melt mixing. The effects of nanofillers on thermal, mechanical and rheological properties were reported, and the obtained results were discussed in terms of morphology, state of dispersion and distribution of the nanofillers within the PP matrix. As for the mechanical properties, an improvement of 56% in tensile modulus and 48% in tensile strength, while 72% reduction in elongation at break was observed. The DMTA results revealed that the nanocomposites based on PP-g-GOSs had lower damping behavior and the intensity of the loss factor decreased by increasing the GNs content. These results indicate the presence of a strong interfacial interaction between the nanoplatelets and the polymer matrix. Tribologie (technologie)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : A network of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) microfibers in a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was prepared by melt mixing the TPU with solid PTFE particles. The effect of rotor speed on the fiber dimensions was investigated. Higher shear stress was found to be the critical parameter for producing thinner PTFE fibers, rather than the shear rate imposed by the mixer. Shear stress transfer from the melt to the PTFE crystal results in solid phase plastic deformation, and the efficiency of the deformation depends on the shear stress in the matrix. All of the PTFE fiber/TPU composites show lower coefficients of friction compared with the neat TPU. The magnitude of the coefficient of friction was found to correlate with the interfacial area between PTFE and TPU generated by the microfiber network. However, for macroscale PTFE agglomerates, the reduction in the coefficient of friction is mostly affected by the uneven distribution of PTFE in the bulk and on the molded part surface.

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : A composite computer model has been proposed for starve fed/flood fed mixing single screw extruders. The model for starve fed extrusion has been developed by combining a new FEM based melt conveying model with recently developed melting models. Mixing screw equipped with distributive toothed disc mixing element has been considered as an example for modeling. An extensive fully three-dimensional non-Newtonian FEM computations have been carried-out to simulate the melt flow in mixing elements. Screw pumping characteristics have been developed for the elements at various power law indices, and these have been implemented into the composite model of the process. Simulations have been performed for low density polyethylene (LDPE) at various operating conditions, both for starve fed and flood fed extrusion. Fill factor, pressure, temperature and melting profiles have been computed and verified experimentally. Note de contenu : - Modeling
