Therefore there is a need for developing an instrument to perform nondestructive testing of the physical properties of leather. In this investigation, experiments were designed to pass leather test samples through a pair of rotational acoustic sensors, thereby enabling the collection of acoustic emission (AE) signals from both the grain and corium and provide a more accurate assessment of the quality of leather. Observations showed a strong correlation between the mechanical properties of leather and the corresponding cumulative acoustic energy. We also used this dynamic method to characterize the grain break of leather. Results showed that the difference in grain break could be determined form the amount of acoustic hits collected from moving the AE sensors over a leather sample. Observations showed the poorer the grain break ; the more AE energy was detected. Data also demonstrated that thicker samples tended to have poorer grain break. In short, this study demonstrated that the tensile strength, stiffness, toughness ans grain break could be nondestructively determined by measuring acoustic quantities with a pair of rotational sensors. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Natural leather is the oldest fibre which has been used by man since early times. In recent times, interest has increased in introducing smart properties to natural leather, giving it practical and economic importance. Recently, finishing, the purpose of which is to produce different leather types to meet consumer requirements has become focused on giving the leather properties that make it an advanced material with smart applications. The aim of this work is to produce superior quality leather that would upgrade its value in performance via nano metal oxide treatment. This aim has been followed by synthesising zinc oxide nanoparticles via green chemistry which is then loaded into sheep leather. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesised zinc oxide nanoparticles have been investigated by SEM and XRD. The SEM, EDX, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) study, and tensile properties determination were undertaken, to see if any significant structural or chemical differences could be detected between ʻuntreatedʼ and ʻtreatedʼ leather. From the various analyses, it was ascertained that the nanoparticles were successfully deposited on the leather surface. The study thus provides an eco-friendly method for zinc oxide nanoparticle synthesis which can then be utilised for finishing sheep leather for creating functional properties. TannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The tanning industry generates a high quantity of solid wastes. Therefore, there is a need to create valorization [added value] options for these wastes. The present work had as its main objective creating added value by production of fat and hydrolyzed protein. To this end, fleshings were treated by hydrolysis with regard to the influence of various factors. The best result was found for a temperature of 60°C, 4 hours of hydrolysis, 2% of enzyme and 100% of water, with a fat extraction yield of 93%.
The fat obtained through the hydrolysis process was used to produce sulphated oils. The protein hydrolysate was concentrated to about 40% of solids content and used to prepare co-products of protein hydrolysage and glutaraldehyde.
Sulphated oils were applied in leather fatliquoring and the different protein hydrolysates were tested in leather retannage. The leather samples obtained were evaluated by physical-mechanical tests and the results were compared to those obtained through a standard process. the results were very satisfactory and, in some cases better than the specified standard.
The process of adding value to this waste results in a double advantage for the leather industry, reducing the environmental impact and allowing production of alternative products for leather fatliquoring and retannage.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Fat extraction - Oil production - Hydrolysate treatment - Leather treatment and evaluation - Fat extraction - Oil production - Hydrolysate treatment - Leather treatment and evaluation En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1L81N_8EBYtQFg4_VzHytHtl0U2zipgd1/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=18143

RetannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The retanning process plays an important role in optimizing the leather’s colour, levelness, softness, fullness, and hydrophobicity. Polymer retanning agents are important materials for this process. The present study used maleic anhydride modified castor oil (MCO), PEG1000 (polyethylene glycol) and IPDI (isophorone diisocyanate) as main materials to synthesize polyurethane microemulsions (MC-PURs) and employed them to retan chrometanned leathers. The hydroxyl functionality of MCO was investigated by chemical and 1HNMR analysis, and confirmed to be about 2.0. The chemical structures of MCO, prepolymer and MC-PUR were characterized by IR.
The optimized synthesis formulation and polyurethane microemulsion MC-PUR3 for MC-PURs as retanning agent was selected by comparing the properties of retanned leathers, such as softness, fullness, grain tightness, tensile strength, extension at break, depth of shade, waterproof properties et al. Then, MC-PUR3 was characterized by means of DSC, TG/DTG and TEM techniques. SEM microgram of MC-PUR3 retanned leather shows that the fibres are well dispersed.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of maleic anhydride modified castor oil (MCO) - Preparation of microemulsions of polyurethane filling retanning agents (MC-PURs) - Determination of molecular weight - H n.m.r. spectroscopy - Purification - FT-IR spectroscopy - Differential scanning spectroscopy - Thermo-gravimetric analysis - Transmission electron microscope analysis - Measurement of final dyebath exhaustion - Physical and waterproofness properties of leathers - Organoleptic properties of the final leathers - Scanning electron microscopic analysis

Tannage Résumé : An acrylic resin nano-size latex whose colloidal particle size was about 20nm and solids content about 25% was prepared by a high solids content semicontinuous microemulsion copolymerization. The experimental product was employed in retanning drop [bottom] splits of pigs aiming to reinforce the leather. The offer of cross-linking agent and functional monomer were varied in the copolymerization experiment and their effect on the reinforcing function was investigated. The effect of colloidal particle size and dosage of nano-size latex on the reinforcing function also was verified.
The particle size of the latex was tested with a laser particle size analyzer, and the composition of the copolymer was analyzed by infrared spectrometry. Multifunction material test equipment was used in the physical testing of the retanned leather.
The result of the experiment showed: when the dosage of divinylbenzene (DVB) was 1.2% and the dosage of acrylic acid (AA) 0.8%, the reinforcing performance was the highest. When the colloidal particle size decreased from 64.2nm to 16.3nm, the reinforcing effect was also enhanced.
The tensile strength increased by 68%, and the tear strength improved 44% after the drop splits of pigs were retanned with 2% acrylic resin nano-size latex (with respect to the shaved wet blue weight). The effect of the dosage of sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), n-pentanol (PA), ammonium persulfate (ASP) and AA on the colloidal particle size was also studied.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL DETAILS : Materials - Synthesis
