Propionique diméthylol, AcideIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Alkyds resins have proven themselves both from a cost and performance point of view over a wide range of coatings applications for architectural metal, wood industrial, agricultural and construction equipments. As alkyd paints are solvent-borne, they contribute to Volatile Organic Content (VOC) emissions. Increasing concerns regarding ground level ozone and indoor air quality have spurred research activities to find alternative technologies to lower VOC emissions without compromising performance. This has proven to be a major challenge for the coating industry as the key issue is reformulating solvent borne paints having lowest possible VOC while delivering expected performance benchmarks. Designing high solid coatings derived for hyperbranches polymers, sucrose polyesters, di methylol propionic acid (DMPA) and waterborne alkyds are a few concepts which can be used for a sustainable and environment friendly coatings without sacrificing the performance. Revêtements poudre:Peinture poudreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The concept of using hyperbranched polymers as scaffolds for solid thermoset resin applications is described. A series of semi-crystalline methacrylate-functional aliphatic polyesters has been synthesized and characterized for applications as solid thermoset resin, e.g., powder coating resins. The polyester resins have been crosslinked by UV irradiation producing either amorphous or semi-crystalline crosslinked films depending on the initial structure. The resins are based on hyperbranched aliphatic polyesters onto which crystalline linear aliphatic polyester chains have been grafted and end-capped with methacrylate moieties. The resins exhibit a rheological behavior suitable for low temperature curing powder coatings, i.e., films that can be readily formed and UV cured at temperatures below 80°C. Revêtements -- Propriétés mécaniques:Peinture -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Hyperbranched polymers (HBP) are the best choice for high solid and excellent performance polyurethane (PU) coatings and structural materials. Polyaspartic ester polyol based PU-ureas, which are highly unexplored, give good gloss, improved (higher) reaction time, high film build up in a single coat, better leveling and adhesion to a number of substrates with wide application area. We have synthesized a hyperbranched polyaspartic-ester polyol (HPASP) with high atom economy and solvent-free condition via A, + B,B' polycondensation in 'one pot' but two steps. The polyol was reacted with H12MD1 to form one pack high solid moisture-cured PU-urea coatings. The coating exhibited excellent mechanical, thermal, gloss and anticorrosive properties. Keeping the broader application as well as industrial viability in mind, we modified the PU coating to improve flexibility and reduce cost without compromising with the properties. For this, hydroxylated soybean oil (SO) was added to HPASP in various ratios to make PU-ureas based on H12MDI. The PU-ureas based on polyaspartic ester polyol and their SO hybrids showed better reaction control than similar HBP-polyurethanes. The hybrid polyaspartic PU-urea coating films have shown good thermal stability with high gloss transition temperature (Tg). The gloss of all the hybrid coating films was high and the mechanical properties were excellent, some even better than HPASP based PU-urea films. The anticorrosion property of all the coatings was studied using electrochemical technique (Tafel plot) and Pound to be very good. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A hyperbranched polyol (HBP) was synthesized using dipentaerythritol as a core material and 2,2-bis(methylol) propionic acid as a chain extender. This was reacted with varying concentrations of soya fatty acid to make hyperbranched alkyd (HBA) resins. The HBA resins containing unreacted hydroxyl groups were reacted with isophorone diisocyanate at NCO/OH ratio of 1.6:1 to make high solid hyperbranched urethane alkyd (HBUA) resins. The excess NCO content in the HBUA resins was used to cure with atmospheric moisture, and thus moisture-cured HBUA coatings were formed. The resins were characterized by FTIR, and 13C NMR spectroscopic analysis. A series of such resins were made using different fatty acid/isocyanate ratios with respect to the hydroxyl groups present in the HBP. The effect of compositions on the mechanical and weathering properties of the cured resins was investigated. It was observed that there was an optimum fatty acid–isocyanate ratio in terms of the requirements of solvent, mechanical and weathering properties of the resin. The requirement of solvents for formulating HBUA coatings is much lower compared to linear alkyd-based coatings. The present study reveals that the moisture-cured HBUA resins can be used as a binder material in the field of low-pollution weather-resistance coatings.
