A smart anticorrosion coating based on hollow silica nanocapsules with inorganic salt in shells / Dong Zhao in JOURNAL OF COATINGS TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH, Vol. 14, N° 1 (01/2017)
[article]
Titre : A smart anticorrosion coating based on hollow silica nanocapsules with inorganic salt in shells Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Dong Zhao, Auteur ; Dongguang Liu, Auteur ; Zhijia Hu, Auteur Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p. 85-94 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This work presents the synthesis of corrosion inhibitor [1H-benzotriazole (BTA)]-loaded hollow silica nanocapsules with magnesium hydroxide precipitate in the shells (HSNs-M/BTA) through inverse microemulsion (W/O) polymerization. TEM and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) measurements indicate that the silica nanocapsules possess voids in the inner part and mesoporous on the surface. The actual loading capacity of BTA is 287.17 mg (BTA)/1 g (HSNs-M/BTA). The results of UV absorption spectra show that the release of BTA can be triggered by the changing of pH in the corrosion solution. The anticorrosive SiOx/ZrOx coatings embedded with hydrophobically modified HSNs-M have a better waterproof performance since the water contact angle can reach 140°. In comparison to the passive SiOx/ZrOx coatings with or without BTA, the enhanced corrosion protection performance of this developed anticorrosive system was observed by both electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel analysis. The fabrication of nanocapsules with corrosion inhibitors is promising as an intelligent element in protective coatings in the future. Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The ceria coating was studied as an efficient alternative to the chromate protective coating of aluminum alloys. The environmentally friendly inhibitor of cerium ion was incorporated into the surface coating using Ce(NO3)3 as precursor via a sol–gel route. The coatings were analyzed with FESEM and EDS. The anticorrosion performance evaluation of the coatings was carried out using electrochemical methods and full immersion experiments. Under the conditions of surface pretreatment with 15 wt% NaOH solution for 20 s, a sol reaction time of 2 h and 3–5 times of dip-coating, the uniform ceria coatings with low defect and barrier were successfully synthesized. After the full immersion process, pitting holes containing copper-rich phases were detected on the surface of the uncoated sample. In contrast, such holes were not observed on the coated sample. Furthermore, the I corr values of the coated samples were smaller than that of the uncoated one, which confirms that the coatings provide a considerable protection barrier and promote the anticorrosion performance of aluminum alloys. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The main objective of this article is to describe some of the important aspects related to the solvent free epoxy based protective coatings for anticorrosive applications. The paper aims to provide a brief introduction of solvent free coatings technology with advantages, performance properties and applications thereof. International and national regulatory bodies and governments are aiming to reduce the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These challenges have caused significant changes in the anticorrosive coating industry and given a new direction to research and development (R&D) in the coatings technology field. The type of binder ensures a number of properties like chemical resistance, flexibility, abrasion resistance in performance properties while designing solvent free coating may require considerations of good rheological properties for processing and ease of applications. Few important performance properties for longer durable coatings are adhesion to the metal, cohesive force within the coating, high mechanical strength, low permeability, good chemical resistance and corrosion resistance etc. These properties are based on type of binders, ingredients and active materials used to form the cured coating film. In this article, the performance test of solvent free anticorrosive epoxy coatings and standards for determination of the performance and durability have been discussed. Also, major applications of solvent free epoxy coatings have been explained at the end. Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy binder systems are the technology of choice for high demanding applications, such as heavy-duty anti-corrosion paints or oil & gas pipe coatings, heavy duty flooring applications and many more. Such epoxy binder systems have a track history of many decades and have proven their ability to cope with the severest environments. However, performance requirements are continuously changing, as well as legislative requirements to protect the environment and workers' health. To help its customers cope with these changes OLIN has developed special solutions, resins and/or curing agents that will meet the most stringent legislative demands, as well as technical challenges. A brief overview will be given demonstrating the recent developments in wet anti-corrosion paints, floor or anti-corrosion waterborne coatings and low temperature curing or high-performance powder coatings.
