We discuss the evolving measurements used to characterize topcoated surface appearance. The influence of carbon fiber on the surface appearance of a thermoplastic resin-transfer-molding (RTM) substrate is related to differences in thermal expansion within the substrate.
The mechanism identified here is then extended to several chopped-fiber-filled thermoplastic substrates where the fiber-mapping effect is manifested in a different manner. We then investigate the influence of thick-film applications to the Class A surface on appearance. Our analysis finds that both the depth and the width or wavelength of the substrate affect the ability of the thick films to cover fiber mapping.Note de contenu : - Class a appearance defined and measured

PolyuréthanesIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : This article is based on the results of a public sponsored research project with the goal to develop simulation strategies for different kinds of bond problems. This includes the meshing task and the description of the material behavior.
One group of bond problems investigated in this project was elastic bonds. In many industrial sectors, like rail vehicle building and automotive engineering, such bonds are used for semi-structural applications. The design of these joints is difficult due to, in comparison to linear elastic approaches, complicated material behavior. Typical members of the group of elastic adhesives are polyurethanes. Low modulus polyurethane adhesives often show a rubber-like material behavior; the typical rubber incompressibility may be observed.
Descriptions for such materials are often based on the Mooney-Rivlin law, which, in the case of a double curvature stress strain curve, characterizes hyper-elastic materials by five constants.
The determination of the required characteristics is experimentally costly; uniaxial and equibiaxial tension tests and shear tests have to be carried out.
Therefore, the attempt was made to use a model, based on the underlying polymer physics. The Arruda-Boyce model for rubber elasticity is such a model and possesses three free parameters.
Relatively simple tube specimens were examined under tension and torsion loads to determine the required values for a common industrial polyurethane adhesive. The resulting material description has been verified with different complex test specimens under inhomogeneous stress states. The meshing and modeling knowledge obtained will be merged into a model library, which allows adequate bond simulations without special polymer knowledge.Note de contenu : - Mechanical behavior

StratifiésIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Due to their qualities and advantages, such as light weight, high rigidity, and high performance, composite materials have been used in a wide variety of industries and sectors. For example, carbon fibres are used in the construction of aircraft, while ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is used in the fabrication of medical artificial joints. In this study, the blade dimensions were estimated using side profiles from a European patent specification and the mechanical properties of numerous layers of composite materials (UHMWPE, carbon, glass fibre, and Perlon) utilized in the fabrication of sports prosthesis were investigated experimentally, theoretically, and numerically, and the results were compared, as well as the theory of failure calculated. The influence of data entered into the ANSYS programme was also investigated in the case of isotropic or orthotropic materials. The findings indicate that longitudinal young modules are experimentally and theoretically equivalent. While the material ISO or Ortho is considered and its information is entered into the ANSYS programme for the same lamina, similar results are obtained under the same boundary condition, as was demonstrated when computing the theory of failure. Additionally, it was demonstrated in this research that layering woven carbon fibre on top of layers of UHMWPE woven fabrics had a greater effect than layering woven glass fibre when fabricating the sports prosthetic foot.
