Stabilisants (chimie)Index. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Alkyds resins are used frequently in industrial coatings. Despite the advantages of these properties there is one major drawback with using alkyd resins. Degradation may occur over a relatively short period of time when alkyds are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light radiation from natural sunlight. The clear coat containing UV absorbers and light stabilisers (N-OR HALS) is commonly applied to the surface for protection.
Waterborne alkyds coatings - the green coatings - have been developed to replace conventional alkyd coatings with VOC emissions. It could be a challenge when light stabilisers are required to protect coatings to UV degradation.
This paper is a comparison study of two different waterborne light stabilisers, which are N-R and N-OR HALS, mixed with waterborne alkyd coating. N-R HALS is basic and N-OR HALS is suitable to use in waterborne acidic alkyd coating. Design of Experiment (DOE) was used in this study. Eversorb AQ6 is a waterborne UV absorber and Eversorb AS5 is N-OR HALS that was investigated in this model. The results confirmed that by increasing the concentration of Eversorb AQ5 and Eversorb AQ6 in the top coat, it can effectively protect from UV light degradation. Furthermore, data also showed that by increasing the coating thickness, the weatherability of coating can also be improved to some degree.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/16k2Vu41mTXXfOnJSV_qNFjWPuAuEZz4Q/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=21506

This was reacted with varying concentrations of soya fatty acid to make hyperbranched alkyd (HBA) resins. The HBA resins containing unreacted hydroxyl groups were reacted with isophorone diisocyanate at NCO/OH ratio of 1.6:1 to make high solid hyperbranched urethane alkyd (HBUA) resins. The excess NCO content in the HBUA resins was used to cure with atmospheric moisture, and thus moisture-cured HBUA coatings were formed. The resins were characterized by FTIR, and 13C NMR spectroscopic analysis. A series of such resins were made using different fatty acid/isocyanate ratios with respect to the hydroxyl groups present in the HBP. The effect of compositions on the mechanical and weathering properties of the cured resins was investigated. It was observed that there was an optimum fatty acid–isocyanate ratio in terms of the requirements of solvent, mechanical and weathering properties of the resin. The requirement of solvents for formulating HBUA coatings is much lower compared to linear alkyd-based coatings. The present study reveals that the moisture-cured HBUA resins can be used as a binder material in the field of low-pollution weather-resistance coatings.

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : New bio-based building blocks were synthesized from amino acids like lysine, glycine, and phenylalanine and from di- or tricarboxylic acids like succinic acid and citric acid, respectively. These building blocks were incorporated into alkyd resins by standard polycondensation chemistry and technology. The resulting alkyd resins were evaluated as coating resins, either by casting films from xylene or by making coatings from water-based alkyds after emulsification of the synthesized alkyd resins. The renewability content of the resins could easily be varied between 80 and ca. 95 wt%. The properties of the highly bio-based coatings look promising, some even outperforming standard commercial alkyd resins. Note de contenu : - Materials

Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A novel short oil alkyd has been synthesized based on higher proportion of rosin. The parameters for mole ratio, reaction temperature, cooking schedule, catalyst and time of heating have been standardised. The spectroscopic analysis of the polymer has been undertaken. The viscosity of prepared polymer has been determined in polar and non-polar solvent. This alkyd has been used in formulation of stoving paints with carnuba wax instead of conventional stoving paint binders. This novel resin has been used as a binder and the performance & physiochemical characteristics of prepared composition are excellent. The use of wax gives improvement in hardness and resistance to water, alkali and solvents. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11499

Environmental testing was done on the cured alkyd emulsion paints, which included the OME-based corrosion inhibitor and a traditional anticorrosive pigment typically used for alkyd emulsion paints, over cold rolled steel (CRS) for 1000+hr in a 5% NaCI salt fog chamber. Adhesion of the cured paint films to the CRS substrate mas tested using direct and reverse impact testing and crosshatch adhesion. Both the environmental and adhesion test results indicated that there were significant improvements in the performance of the cured alkyd emulsion paints that had incorporated the OME corrosion inhibitor when used in conjunction with a traditional anticorrosive pigment. Improvements were also seen when using the organometallic ester corrosion inhibitor alone when directly compared to an alkyd emulsion paint that used a traditional anticorrosive pigment. The improved performance of the alkyd emulsion paint, when using an organometallic ester-based corrosion inhibitor, would allow the alkyd emulsion paints to equal that obtained when using solvent-based alkyd paints, thereby reducing the reliance on solvent-based paints for light industrial applications.
