Allnex is a pioneer in the development of energy curable polyurethane dispersions (UVPUDs) particularly designed for specialised high-end applications characterised by a rapid curing with low energy consumption. These include, for instance, primers with excellent 'anfeuerung', clear coats with superior mirror effect, top coats suitable for deep cure with high pigment load or hard coats with ultimate scratch and abrasion resistance. More recently, the technology has even been exported outside the usual industrial applications and dedicated waterborne coating formulations have emerged for field-applied applications with high productivity and superior quality. Modified alkyd emulsions provide effective application properties for stain blocking wall paints.
Due to modern ecological and employment protection guidelines, solvent-based paints became more and more under pressure and already have strict legal requirements in certain countries. In the European Community eg the approved volatile organic compounds, VOC, content is limited for several types of deco paints in which the term volatile organic substances includes all solvents with a boiling point below 250°C at standard pressure. Interior wall paints, for example, have an upper limit of 30g/lit resp 100g/lit, depending on the gloss level. According to those requirements, the legal Omit values can only be fulfilled with water-based systems. But even without legislation water-based systems have big advantages in comparison to solvent-based types as they provide a lower smell level and are non-inflammable.Note de contenu : - Stain-blocking properties

Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne alkyd dispersions/emulsions are known in the art and are commercially available but no specific information is available about the low VOC aqueous alkyd emulsions meant for Primers for porous and nonporous substrates and specifically for highly porous and chalky POP and cementitious substrates wherein conventionally available water borne binders showed poor adhesion. Preparation of water dispersible alkyd by incorporation of polyethylene glycol (PEG) into the alkyd resin is back bone and neutralization of acid groups to obtain water soluble alkyd dispersion.
An alkyd emulsion prepared by an emulsion inversion process (EIP) that includes forming an alkyd resin, neutralizing residual acid groups, adding surfactant and water so that an "Oil in Water" emulsion is formed. The alkyd dispersions thus formed are described as being useful in wood stains and common architectural paints. It is said that reacting a Hydroxy-functional alkyd emulsion with a water-dispersible poly iso-cyanate in a two component coating formulation, wherein the alkyd resin can be obtained from an oleic or fatty acid component, a polyvalent alcohol, a polyether polyol having a molecular Weight of 400 to 8,000, a monobasic carboxylic acid and a polycarboxyl ic acid or the anhydride.Note de contenu : - Fast-drying clear base formulations

Revêtements en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne polymeric coating for corrosion protection has been of particular interest both in academia and industrial circles for years because of its low cost and low-volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. However, organic coating is permeable to water and oxygen resulting in the reduction of anticorrosion properties during coating application. In this study, waterborne corrosion-resistant hydrophobic-modified alkyd resin composite coatings using fluorinated acrylate–siloxane (FASAR) and submicron-sheet zinc phosphate (Zn3(PO4)2) pigment were prepared. The results of hydrophobicity, thermal, and mechanical measurements indicated that the FASAR30/5%Zn3(PO4)2 had excellent performance. More importantly, the EIS and potentiodynamic polarization tests revealed that the acquired films also exhibited high anticorrosion property for carbon steel. The corrosion current density (icorr) was 7.20 × 10−7 A cm−2, with an inhibition efficiency of 99.92%, and a corrosion rate of 8.37 × 10−3 mm per year. On the other hand, the impedance modulus (Zf = 0.01 Hz) of FASAR30/5%Zn3(PO4)2 still had 5.68 × 104 Ω cm2 after 14-day immersion in the 3.5 wt% NaCl solution.
