In this method, ZnO nanoparticles were first modified by isopropyl tri(dioctyl pyrophosphate acyloxy) titanate (NDZ201) to obtain NDZ201 modified ZnO, and then the NDZ201 modified ZnO was introduced into hydrogenated castor oil to prepare modified hydrogenated castor oli/nano-ZnO (MHCO/ZnO) composites. The stability and anti-UV susceptibility of MHCO/ZnO composites were investigated. The results show that MHCO/ZnO composites have botter UV resistance and stability than hydrogenated castor oil. Bath MI-1C0 and ZnO have the anti-UV synergistic effect. MHCO/ZnO composites as fatliquoring agents were applied to leather. The yellowing resistance, softness, and strength properties involving tensile strength, elongation al break and tear strength of fatliquored leather were studied. The tests indicated that the leather fatliquored by MHCOIZnO composites exhibited an excellent anti-yellowing performance. ZnO nanoparticles had toughening and reinforcing effects for leather. The morphology of fractured surfaces of the selected leather samples and the distribution of Zn element were observed by SEM-EDS. SEM-EDS analysis reveals that ZnO nanoparticles exist on the leather fibres.

Conducting polymers have now been used as corrosion inhibitor coatings that are either chemically or electrochemically deposited on the metal substrate. The application of nanotechnology in the corrosion protection of metals has recently gained momentum. Environmental impact can also be improved by utilizing nanostructure particulates in coatings and eliminating the requirement of toxic solvents. We report here the synthesis of nanoparticles of polyaniline (PANI) and poly-o-anisidine (POA) using emulsion polymerization method in micellar solution of SDS and their anticorrosive property has been experimentally checked. The prepared nanoparticles have been characterized by FTIR and TEM. The nanoparticles of the synthesized polymers were dispersed in alkyd paint formulation for coatings on the metal surface (mild steel). The water absorption in the prepared coatings was also studied. The corrosion rate of polymeric film was determined by weight loss measurement and the surface morphology was examined by SEM. The nano PANI/Alkyd coatings showed considerable protection against corrosion than the POA/alkyd coatings. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this study, we describe a simple method for the synthesis of a novel nanocomposite comprising hyperbranched urethane alkyd and silver nanoparticle (embedded in the resin) for a high-solid antimicrobial coating application. During the process, silver benzoate was dispersed in the hyperbranched alkyd (HBA) resin containing free hydroxyl groups and the resin is cured with an isocyanate trimer (Desmodur N3390) to make a silver nanoparticle-based nanocomposite coating. Silver benzoate is reduced by the free radicals, generated from naturally occurring oxidative curing of the fatty acid present in the alkyd resin. Unlike a conventional method, which involves the use of a toxic reducing agent or solvent, the present process does not require any toxic reducing agent for the generation of silver nanoparticles. The formation of silver nanoparticle was confirmed by spectroscopic and electron microscopic analysis. The HBA resin used in this work requires a much lesser amount of solvent for making a coating formulation and offers superior mechanical properties compared to the conventional alkyds. The surfaces coated with the nanocomposite coating showed excellent antimicrobial activity against Serratia marcescens bacteria. Styrène-co-butylacrylate-acide acryliqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Herein, it is reported that synthesis of poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate) latexes containing ZnO and TiO2 nanoparticles was carried out using miniemulsion polymerization. The synthesized latexes and films cast from them were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDAX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Stress–strain and DMA analysis was performed for the mechanical analysis of the films prepared from latexes. The particle sizes of the latexes were about 60 nm for pure latex and latex only containing ZnO and TiO2, while the particle size for latex containing nanoparticle mixture was measured as 120 nm. XRD, SEM-EDAX, and TEM analysis results showed that the nanoparticles were well dispersed in latex. When the mechanical analysis results were compared, latex films including 2% ZnO nanoparticles were found to be stronger. DMA analysis showed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) values of the polymers were between 0 and 10°C and the nanoparticles were not effective in changing the Tg values. Latex films were exposed to 254 nm UV light to determine their yellowing. According to the colorimetric measurement, ZnO nanoparticle-embedded films were found to be more resistant to yellowing.
