ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Composite manufacturers are facing increasing pressure to improve operational efficiency, identify saving opportunities and reduce their ecological footprint, without compromising material performance. The implementation of an ultraviolet (UV) curing manufacturing process is proving to be an effective step towards these goals. Before considering such process improvements, maanufacturers and OEMs should be aware of the benefits and boundaries of the current state of the art in UV curing technology. Note de contenu : - BENEFITS AND BOUNDARIES : WHEN TO CONSIDER USING UV TECHNOLOGY ? : Prepregs : stable storage and fast, controlled curing - Pultrusion : increased line speed, reduced energy consumption and cleaning labour - Filament winding : reduced cycle time, energy cost and number of mandrels in use - In-field repair : fast return to service and high process control - New opportunities

Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The goal of this project was to determine the most promising co-polymerized (COP) coating for paperboard for protection against gas and water vapor transmission. The driving force for this was to create a coating that will significantly slow the permeation of water and water vapor through the paperboard, while retaining its mechanical properties. This was accomplished by creating high barrier co-polymerized coatings. This study focuses on the use of modified high shape factor engineered (HSFE) clays. In this study, acrylic co-monomers have been polymerized in the presence of three different, finely dispersed HSFE clays, to prepare the co-polymerized coatings. The wet coating structure was studied using Brookfield and Hercules Hi-Shear viscometers, water retention, and dispersion stability. The dry coating structure was studied using WYKO White Light Interferometry and burn out tests. The cylindrical laboratory coater (CLC)-coated samples were then tested for gas and water vapor permeability. Additionally, the optical and surface properties were determined. The CLC-coated board samples showed almost zero gas permeability and a significant reduction in water vapor transmission rate (water vapor permeability). The water vapor permeability was reduced up to 90% reflecting a one order of magnitude decrease in comparison to a commercially coated sample. The co-polymerized coating with high shape factor and thinner platelet clay displayed the lowest water vapor permeability and the best optical and surface properties, thereby making it the most promising barrier coating for solid bleached sulfate paperboard. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Silk fabrics treated with gallic acid/pyrrole (PGA/PPy) complexes polymerised using horseradish peroxidase have higher electrochemical activity than silk fabrics dyed with gallic acid alone. However, the degree of polymerisation decreases. As a result, the ultraviolet (UV) protection and fastness of the silk fabric were lowered. To solve this problem, we studied the degree of polymerisation of the complex and the functionality of dyed silk fabrics by applying a polyethylene glycol (PEG) template to the enzymatic polymerisation of PGA/PPy. The polymerisation mechanism of the complexes was analysed in detail using UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and high-performance liquid chromatography electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS). Consequently, the PGA/PPy/PEG complex has a higher degree of polymerisation than the PGA/PPy prepared without PEG, indicating that the PEG template can promote the polymerisation of PGA and PPy. As a result, we found that the presence of the PEG template improved the thermal stability and UV protection function of the dyed silk fabric, but did not impair the electrochemical activity of silk fabric. As a result of analysing the colour depth, it exhibited a higher K/S value compared to the dyed silk fabric in the absence of PEG. Additionally, its colour fastness was improved.
