Nubuck finishing with water-based carbonyl-functional polymers / Lluis Ollé in JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF LEATHER TECHNOLOGISTS & CHEMISTS (JSLTC), Vol. 92, N° 5 (09-10/2008)
[article]

It produces both wastewaters and emissions to atmosphere. The present paper details the study of a new coating formulation intended to minimize the negative environmental effects of this process. This study tests an alternative method of nubuck finishing imitating full grain using using water-based carbonyl-functional polymers and micro-dispersed pigments. These new polymers can achieve very good physical properties without losing the inherent properties of flexibility and elasticity. The application of these new products together with micro-dispersed pigments enables the reduction of the amount of products needed and, therefore, makes it possible to reduce wastewaters and atmospheric emissions.
The leather finished using this new coating formulation is soft, with a very natural handle ; with only 0,02mm thick coating, all the necessary requirements for leather goods are met and, most importantly, a great capacity for covering defects is achieved.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Cross-linking mechanism of water based carbonyl-functional polymers

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The cure behaviour of oligourethane diols crosslinked with melamine formaldehyde resin is influenced by the amount of the crosslinker used in the formulation and by the bake temperature. In the course of baking major part of the cross-linker is consumed in trans-etherification reaction and a part of it undergoes selfcondensation. The aromatic nature of TDI imparts rigidity while aliphatic IPDI results in flexibility of the backbone chain of oligomer. In the case of formulations containing 30% cross-linker baked at 140°C for 20 min, a major part of the reaction is completed which indicates the ideal condition for crosslinking. The findings indicate that the knowledge about the cure schedules is essential to control the poor durability, resistance to solvents, mar or scratch of underbake coatings as well as lack of flow and levelling, brush strokes, roller striations, orange peel, wrinkling and yellowing of overbake coatings. The profile of cure schedules has been determined in the form of Cure Window which measures the extent of reaction in terms of crosslink density as function of bake temperature. The width of the cure window has direct application to paint cure uniformity. The lower and upper range of temperatures for baking the coatings has been illustrated in terms of Nominal and True Cure Windows. Note de contenu : - Cure Window

Titre : On the fast track with AI : How artificial intelligence finds the formulation for the desired coating Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Markus Sommer, Auteur Année de publication : 2024 Article en page(s) : p. 28-33 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Apprentissage automatique L'apprentissage automatique (en anglais : machine learning, litt.

Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Water transport kinetics in the coatings were markedly enhanced and the coating impedances decreased exponentially as temperature increased. The effect of temperature on the coating impedance was attributed to the change in the defect area fraction caused by the thermal expansion of the polymers. The temperature dependence of coating impedance was reversible in a non-aqueous environment but was irreversible in an aqueous environment. This is attributed to the plasticization effect of water on the polymer chains. The effect of glass transition on coating impedances during a short period of exposure to heat source was insignificant.
