The extent of hydrogen bonding was investigated to show a dependence on SiO2 concentration, which increased the Tg of the polymers with increasing of SiO2 concentration. Gel content, solvent resistivity, tensile strength, hydrophobic character and abrasion resistance were improved by increasing SiO2 content. The coating films have shown good mechanical, viscoelastic and crosslink density. Thermal decomposition profiles and the corresponding stability data suggests a two-step decomposition for the hybrids ; further their stability increased with an increasing the concentration of SiO2.

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A one-pot sonochemical irradiation method was developed for the fabrication of superhydrophobic and superoleophilic cotton fabric from a solution consisting of branched silica nanoparticles and tetraethoxysilane-dodecyltrimethoxysilane sol. The silica/sol-coated cotton fabric could be wetted by liquids of low surface tension, but was water repellent with a water contact angle of 159 ± 1.2° and water shedding angle of 6 ± 0.8°. The as-prepared cotton fabric could be used as effective materials for the separation of oil from water with separation efficiency as high as 98.2% and maintained separation efficiency above 94% after 30 separation cycles for the kerosene-water mixture. Moreover, the superhydrophobic and superoleophilic cotton fabric could maintain stable superhydrophobicity after treatment with strong acidic and alkali solutions, and harsh mechanical damage. Therefore, this reported robust superhydrophobic cotton fabric exhibits encouraging practical application for oil-water separation. Transparence (optique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The authors studied the use of Neuburg Siliceous Earth, as a functional filler for a waterborne two-component epoxy clear coat to achieve transparency and colour neutrality.
Anti-corrosion paints with sufficient protection properties can only be prepared with help of anti-corrosion pigments. When working with such pigments, however, an application as clear coats is not possible, as the refractive indice of the binder and the pigments are very different.
The fine sized Neuburg Siliceous Earth, on the other hand, is characterised by a refractive index close to that of the binder, which makes the filler in the coating appear transparent. As earlier anti-corrosion studies found, Neuburg Siliceous Earth as a functional filler is able to decidedly improved the corrosion protection properties becaus of its unique mineralogical composition.
The objective of this study was to meet the following requirement profile of the clear coat by using NeuBurg Siliceous Earth :
- Sufficient flexility and excellent adhesion on various substrates
- Good transparency
- No milky blushing of the clear coat after exposure to humidity
- Improved anti-corrosion properties.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Base formulation - Fillers used and characteristics - Formulation variations - Adjustment of application viscosity - Batch preparation, application and drying - Test methods colour values - Gloss - Pendulum hardness (Koenig) - Flexibility (Cupping test) - Adhesion (Cross Cut test 1mm) - Humidity test - Salt spray test

Conventional, mostly low-gloss interior emulsion paints often have the disadvantage of having insufficient resistance to staining, since liquid stains are easily absorbed into the surface due to the high and often supercritical pigment volume concentration and are, therefore, difficult to remove.
As a result, reduced liquid and stain absorbency in the coating is a desirable quality for cleanable paints. This can be achieved by setting a suitably subcritical pigment volume concentration, which enables more homogeneous film formation and sealed, less absorbent coating films. In addition, the sensitivity to staining can be reduced by using hydrophobic or oleophobic additive components in the formulation.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Basic formulation and variations - Preparation, application, and testing

The effect of operating variables, such as screw speed and screw configuration on the dispersion of nanosilica in the polymer matrix has been studied, using TEM imaging. High shear stress, sufficient residence time, and high fill ratio in the melting section of the screw were the most important factors in achieving good nanosilica dispersion. Furthermore, the effects of filler loading and amount of a maleated polypropylene (PP-g-MA) compatibilizer on the degree of SiO2 dispersion were investigated. The foaming performance of the composites was evaluated using a batch foaming simulation system, and an extrusion foaming setup that employed respectively N2 and CO2 blowing agents. Well-dispersed surface-modified hydrophobic SiO2 particles acted as effective nucleating agents for foaming, when used at loadings below 1 phr.
