ThermochromieIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : A reversible, adjustable thermochromic colorant with bichromatic conversion from dark red (cool state) to yellow (heat state) was prepared using bromocresol purple (BCP) as colour former. The thermochromic behaviour of this colorant was investigated during the heating‐cooling cycle, including the colour depth, colour difference and switching temperature. The mechanism of thermochromic colorant switching between dark red and yellow originated from the transformation of the conjugated structures of BCP, which was confirmed by infrared spectrometry. The switching temperature can be flexibility adjusted between 13-46 °C by mixing solvents according to Schröder's equation, which was demonstrated by differential scanning calorimetry measurement. The thermochromic colorant presented good reversible thermochromic performance with stable changes in colour parameters for 50 heating‐cooling cycles. This sultone‐based reversible dark red‐yellow conversion thermochromic colorant is suitable for application as thermal‐indicating material under various conditions. ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of novel aluminum phosphate ester (APEA) flame retardants were synthesized by the salification of cyclic phosphate ester acid (PEA) with different mass ratios of aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and thoroughly characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The PEA and APEAs were thoroughly mixed with melamine formaldehyde resin to produce five kinds of transparent fire-retardant coatings. The synergistic effects of ATH on the thermal stability, flame retardancy, and smoke suppression properties of the coatings were investigated by different analytical instruments. The results show that the incorporation of ATH greatly decreases the weight loss, char index, flame spread rating, heat release rate, total heat release, smoke production rate, total smoke release and specific optical density in the coatings applied to plywood boards, which is ascribed to a more compact and intumescent char formed during burning, as determined from digital photographs and scanning electron microscopy images. The synergistic effects of ATH in the coatings depend on the content of ATH, and an excessive amount of ATH diminishes the synergistic effects on the flame retardancy and smoke suppression properties based on fire protection tests and cone calorimeter test. Thermo-gravimetric analysis reveals that the thermal stability and char-forming ability of the coatings gradually improve with increasing loading of ATH. FTIR analysis demonstrates that the incorporation of ATH forms a more phosphorus-rich crosslinked char and aromatic char during burning, thus effectively reducing the mass loss, heat release, and smoke production and exhibiting excellent synergistic flame retardant and smoke suppression effects in the coatings. Titre : Synthesis and characterization of phosphorus- and silicon- containing flame-retardant curing agents and a study of their effect on thermal properties of epoxy resins Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Seema Agrawal, Auteur ; Anudeep Kumar Narula, Auteur Année de publication : 2014 Article en page(s) : p. 631-637 Note générale : Bibliogr.

Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two amines, one phosphoric acid tris-(5-amino-naphthalene-1-yl) ester and another bis-(5-amino-naphthalene-1-yl) dimethyl silane, were synthesized and their structures were characterized with the help of elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and 31P NMR spectroscopic techniques. These amines are used as reactive flame retardants as well as curing agents to blend with commercial epoxy resin diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). The thermal properties of these epoxy thermosets (EPs) were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and the flame retardancy was tested according to the LOI and UL 94 tests. The results indicate that all epoxy thermosets exhibit excellent flame retardancy, moderate changes in T g, and 5% decomposition temperature in the range of 344–435°C. ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Core-shell hyperbranched polyesters (HBPE) of third generation prepared from 2,2?-bis (hydroxymethyl) propionic acid (Bis-MPA) as an ABx monomer and N-heterocyclic (indole, piperidine and piperazine) phosphoryl dichloride as a core molecule by melt condensation process. These polymers were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 31P NMR, elemental analysis, and MALDI spectroscopy. The thermal behavior of the polymers has been investigated by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). There is no weight loss observed until 250 °C under nitrogen atmosphere. DSC showed that the glass transition temperatures was about ?14 and ?30 °C for the prepared core-shell HBPE. The dielectric properties such as dielectric constant and loss factor for these polyesters were also studied with respect to change of frequency (50 Hz to 5 MHz).

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The bio-based epoxy resins for coating application were synthesized from gallic acid (GA) in various molar ratios with epichlorohydrin (ECH). The reaction was carried out in the presence of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and phase-transfer catalyst tetrabutylammonium bromide. The reaction progress rate at various molar ratios as 1:8, 1:12, and 1:16 with respect to time was monitored by calculating the epoxy content. The epoxy content value increases in the product as the molar ratio of GA to ECH increases. Epoxy equivalent weight of products was evaluated by physiochemical method and structure illustrated by Fourier transform infrared and 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This bio-based epoxy resin was cured with polyamide hardener, and the coating properties such as mechanical, chemical, and solvent resistance were studied. The cured films have been evaluated for glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal behavior by a differential scanning calorimeter and thermogravimetric analysis, respectively. The bio-based epoxy coatings show interesting mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties as compared to the conventional epoxy resin. The gel and water absorption of polyamide-cured coatings has also been evaluated.
