Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The blending of mineral fillers with organic polymeric materials typically provides highly improved mechanical and physical properties of the cured polymer. Unfortunately, the use of conventional mineral filling materials (e.g. quartz flour or fumed silica) is usually accompanied by cost- and energy-intensive dispersion technologies. These conventional fillers could potentially give a dramatic viscosity increase within the formulation and hamper, or even prohibit, processing. In addition, some properties of the cured material are negatively affected like brittleness and transparency. To overcome the disadvantages of conventional mineral fillers, extensive research and development efforts have yielded nanosized mineral filling materials with an average size of 1-100 nm. These nanosized particles proved to dramatically reduce formulation viscosity and thereby enhance mechanical and optical properties of the cured organic polymer. Thus, it was possible to improve the scratch resistance and hardness of UV-cured coatings while simultaneously keeping the optical transparency equivalent to unfilled materials.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this article, a series of hybrid coatings were prepared and characterized. At first, polydimethylsiloxane modified with siliane coupling agent was copolymerized with acrylate monomers by free radical polymerization to get the hybrid resins. Due to the combination of covalent bond, the prepared hybrid resins were uniform and transparent. Then a series of hybrid resins were cured with tetraethoxysilane and dibutyltin dilaurate as the crosslinker and catalyst, respectively. The blends were loaded onto the substrate, such as tin plate, steel panels, or flat glass, and cured by heating to form hybrid coatings. To study the factors on the properties of the prepared hybrid resins and cured coatings, various measurements were carried out, such as FTIR, TGA, DSC, laser optical microscope, water contact angles, pencil scratch hardness, and the electrochemistry test. Thanks to the combination of covalent bond, the two components dispersed uniformly in the prepared hybrid resins and no cracks were observed from the cured hybrid coatings with an optical microscope. With excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and hydrophobic property, the prepared hybrid coatings can find application in the heavy-duty chemical industry. Résonance magnétique nucléaireIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : In this study, a styrene/isoprene/styrene (SIS) triblock copolymer was synthesized in an intermeshing, co-rotating, twin-screw extruder. N-butyl lithium was used as the initiator. The styrene and isoprene monomer as well as 1,2-dibromoethane were sequentially added into the extruder. The weight content of isoprene in this copolymer was above 60%. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) results showed that the polystyrene in the copolymer chains was mainly comprised of only one long block. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the polystyrene phase transferred from larger numbers of small microdomains to a continuous aggregation after the coupling reaction. As a result, the tensile stress and ultimate elongation was significantly improved, similar to the commercial product. Traditionally, SIS has only been synthesized by solution polymerization. The present work offers the capacity to synthesize it with very little or no solvent. This method fits the environmentally friendly trend.
