Pigments inorganiques
Revêtements -- Industrie et commerceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Admittedly somewhat down the scale from sunshine, the beauties of Nature and the enduring human virtues, pigments nevertheless play a tremendously important part in making the world a brighter and more pleasant place to live in. Pigments impart colour in a reproducible and predictable manner. Pigments can also opacify, to a greater or lesser extent, i. e. hide the colour or lack of colour of the other components in the paint, ink, plastic, rubber, paper, food or cosmetic product in which the pigments are incorporated. Pigments are clearly associated with an improved quality of life. Note de contenu : - More than 90% of total pigment tonnage
- Paint still the major end-use sector
- Lots of TiO2 customers
- But relatively few TiO2 suppliers
- TiO2 ‘s 80th jubilee year
- Major suppliers tighten their grip
- Over 5 million t.p.a. of TiO2
- Expansions vs. shortagePermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11293

This report describes the findings of work carried out by SCM Chemicals using a solvent-borne single-coat automotive topcoat applied by this method. A major feature of this work has been the development of a quantitative instrumental method for the measurement of opacity. This method has been used to study the effects of pigment types and loadings. It is shown that by changing TiO2 products it is possible to influence the potential opacity of a paint and, therefore, the area that may be covered at complete hiding by a given volume of that paint. The effects on gloss and haze of the resulting paint films have also been studied. In the polyester/melamine system tested, zirconia treated products and particularly TiONA® RCL-628 have been shown to generate higher opacity than those based on current silica treatment technology. It has also been shown that the superior gloss and haze performance of zirconia treated products allows the use of lower film weights and/or higher PVC levels without incurring a gloss/haze penalty compared to the performance of silica treated products. Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper shows how to select the most suitable TiO2 pigments for waterborne general industrial coatings. The performance of TiO2 grades in a variety of waterborne systems based on different resin technologies is discussed. The correlation between pigment performance in the different resin systems is examined. Pigment properties such as the inorganic surface coating, pigment pH, dispersant demand, conductivity and isoelectric point have also been assessed for their influence on waterborne paint performance. Revêtements en phase aqueuse -- Additifs:Peinture en phase aqueuse -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Water borne formulations frequently need special components added to make the viscosity up to a range the user needs for application. There are four types of water soluble polymers used in this application. These four types are discussed with respect to their operating mechanism, their strengths and their weaknesses. Compatibility with other components of the water borne formulation is of premier importance, and understanding the interactions is based on polymer and colloid science.
