Chitine
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Tree is one of the wonder materials offered by the nature to living beings. Wood originates from trees and since then, living beings are making use of th is naturally occurring and economically feasible renewable resource. Chemically, wood is made up of three substances called cellulose, lignin and hemicelluloses which are responsible for strengthening of wood. It is evident from the data that wood is tough, light and flexible compared to other construction material and has a good dimensional stability against weathering properties. Because of its exceptionally versatile properties, wood has become an integral part of billions of living spaces. Unlike metal, wood does not corrode, however because of its porous nature and biological nutrients, wood is always prone to various microbial attack and one of the most important microbe amongst them is fungus. In spite of chemically complex properties of wooden substrate, human being has overcome this challenge by successfully developing various types of wood coatings with anti-fungal resistance as one of the property. This article surveys about the availabi I ity of wood coatings for protecting against fungal growth, their behaviour against various fungi and future considerations. Revêtements -- Séchage sous rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Formulating UV curable coating is an art for the formulator for decades and if the coating is pigmented, it becomes more complicated. Developing this UV curable pigmented system is a real challenge and developing it in a black color makes it more challenging.ihe correlation between black color and UV radiation is a complex phenomenon. Black is color which absorbs all the wavelengths and transmits none. Along with visible light, it also absorbs Ultraviolet light and hence, black pigment itself is major governing factor for curing of black coatings which cures by UV source. Development of novel photo initiator and advancement in Carbon black pigments has simplified this difficult task by providing further scope to the formulator for designing UV curable black coating. This paper is a scientific overview of the work done in the area of UV curable black coating development considering role of various oligomers, monomers and their functionalities, choice of photo-initiators based on their absorption spectra and introduction of suitable black pigment in optimized ratio. PolymèresIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Polymers are high molecular weight compound with low specific gravity (density) and high specific strength. Density of polymers are very low as compared to metal, however, the strength of these materials is relatively very high. Because of high strength to weight ratio polymers have replaced metals for many applications. The variation of density is because of the elements present in the polymer chain and structure of the polymer chain and arrangement of polymer chain. In Polyethylene, the arrangement of polymer chains can be vary, these are available in various densities. Polyethylene with high density have an ordered structure hence are more crystalline in nature with higher strength. Polymers contain polymer chains of unequal length, and so the molecular weight is not a single value - the polymer exists as a distribution of chain lengths and molecular weights. Different average values can be defined, depending on the statistical method applied. i) Number average molar mass or M, (also loosely referred to as Number Average Molecular Weight. ii) Mass average molar mass or M„, (also commonly referred to as Weight Average Molecular Weight iii) Z average molar mass or M, (z is for centrifugation; from German zentrifuge) and iv) Viscosity average molar mass or M. The number average molecular mass of a polymer can be determined by gel permeation chromatography, viscometry via the (Mark-Houwink equation), colligative methods such as vapor pressure osmometry, end-group determination or proton NMR. The mass average molecular mass can be determined by static light scattering, small angle neutron scattering, X-ray scattering, and sedimentation velocity. The graph of variation of number of polymer chains Ni vs molecular weight, is called molecular weight distribution curve. The polydispersity index is used as a measure of the broadness of a molecular weight distribution of a polymer. The ratio of the mass average to the number average is called the dispersity or the polydispersity index. MWD curve is narrow or wide depending upon the poly dispersity index. A narrow MWD is having better mechanical properties over wide MWD. Whereas the processability of the material is easy in wide MWD. Step polymerization reactions typically yield values of Mw/Mn of around 2.0, whereas chain reactions yield Mw/Mn values between 1.5 and 20. Molecular weight, Molecular weight distribution of the polymer is determined by various methods viz osmometry, end group analysis, light scattering method, sedimentation method, Gel permeable chromatography, Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectroscopy (MALDI-MS) and Diffusion-ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY). Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : During the last fifty years, different methods were proposed to determine CPVC, many of which based on the change of coating properties (for example film density). In practice, the following two methods are the most used : the Gilsonite method and the film tension test. The Gilsonite method is based on the ability to stain the coating using a 10% solution of Gilsonite (trade name of natural bitumen) in white spirit. With the PVC value increasing, the intensity of the stain increases, obtained by soaking the paint test tube in the Gilsonite solution. The higher the PVC value, the higher the stain intensity. Visibly CPVC matches PVC at the point in which the soaked area has the same colour as the non-soaked one. As an alternative, the film tension test is based on the tension produced in a paint film during the solvent evaporation. This tension causes a shrinkage in the film which wilI be greater or smal ler based on the hardness of the binder, and wiII be greatest when PVC matches CPVC. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterproofing is important in protecting the structure and ensuring that the structure is usable over its service life. The forces exerted by water are enormous and its effects are unpredictable. Water proofing may be defined as the prevention of water penetration into or th rough dry concrete. It may be required where there is a hydrostatic head of water to be resisted, or where unusually dry conditions must be maintained.
On the other hand, damp proofing may be defined as the treatment of concrete or mortar to retard the passage or absorption of water or water vapour, either by application of a suitable coating to exposed surfaces, or by use of a suitable admixture or treated cernent. As the definition indicates, damp proofing will not prevent the passage or absorption of water. It only reduces the rate of penetration of water into dry concrete, or rate of transmission of water through concrete.Note de contenu : - CONCRETE WATER PROOFING COMPOUNDS : Chemical types used in each category are summarized - Materials which react with cement hydration products - Material which coalesce on contact with cement hydration products - Finely divided form of hydrophobic materials
