These different structured POSS/GMA-containing copolymers are applied to build the porous films through breath-figures (BF) method. L-(PGMA-b-MA-POSS) is easy to form the ordered porous BF film, and T-(PGMA-b-MA-POSS)4 tends to form well-distributed BF film due to its high segment density which is beneficial to stabilize water drop. It is proven that solvent has a great effect on the morphologies of BF film. The perfect BF film is developed in the relatively wet atmosphere as 5–8 μm diameter of pores casted in THF and 2–4 μm diameter of pores casted in CH2Cl2 with regular morphology. The developed BF film has superior stability than the film developed in natural conditions due to the shorter stable balancing time. Therefore, it is believed that the obtained porous films show great potential in coating application. Different contents of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) were introduced by three addition modes to copolymerize with methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, acrylic acid (AA) in the presence of K2S2O8. To obtain stable latexes, NaHCO3 was employed as a buffer to compensate for the acidity from the thermal dissociation of K2S2O8, and triethylamine was used to neutralize the carboxyl acid from AA. The results showed that the stable latexes with core/shell structure were synthesized by this method, and higher GMA content or addition at earlier stage led to forming the latexes with higher content of coagulum and bigger sized particles. During the formation of films, the polymer epoxy groups underwent the crosslinking reaction with carboxyl acid. When the GMA content increased or GMA was introduced at a later stage, high crosslinking extent was formed in the films. As a result, the crosslinking provided the films with improved water resistance, chemical resistance, tensile strength, hardness, abrasion resistance, and thermal stability. PolypropylèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The effects of the addition of different functionalized compatibilizers on toughness, morphology and rheological properties of a polypropylene (PP) – poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) (85–15 wt%) blend were studied. The three compatibilizers compared were: (Styrene Ethylene Butylene Styrene)-grafted-(glycidyl methacrylate); (Styrene Ethylene Butylene Styrene) – grafted – (maleic anhydryde); (polyolefin) – grafted – (glycidyl methacrylate), abbreviated to: SEBS-g-GMA, SEBS-g-MA and POE-g-GMA respectively. The effective grafting content was the same for all three compatibilizers. Before the comparison of the different compatibilizers was done, first the effects of three different processing temperatures and three different compatibilizer contents were investigated, based on the addition of SEBS-g-GMA. The compatibilization effect was significantly improved with an increase in processing temperature from 250 to 300 °C. The toughness was increased with almost a factor two and a decrease in the average domain size of the dispersed phase was observed. An increase in compatibilizer content from 0.25 to 2.5 wt% resulted in a finer dispersity as well as in a steep increase in toughness, which was noted to approach the brittle-to-ductile transition. The comparison of the three compatibilizers was subsequently done at the most promising processing temperature and content: 300 °C and 2.5 wt%. The results showed that the addition of SEBS-g-MA and POE-g-GMA had a less significant positive effect on the compatibilization compared to SEBS-g-GMA. The difference is attributed to a higher reactivity for GMA compared to MA and a higher possibility for migration towards the PP-PET interface for the SEBS chain compared to the POE chain. Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this work, a novel bio-based phosphorus-containing reagent was synthesized and characterized. To obtain a flame retardant agent with acid functionality, 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) and bio-based itaconic acid were first reacted. The synthesized acid then was reacted with glycidyl methacrylate to form a difunctional phosphorus-containing methacrylate flame retardant monomer. The flame retardant monomer was added to a reactive monomer matrix with a photoinitiator to prepare UV-curable coatings. The molecular structure of the flame retardant was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared-attenuated total reflection spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy. The flame retardant behavior of coatings was determined using limiting oxygen index. Thermal behaviors of the films were studied by thermal gravimetric analysis. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive spectroscopy was used to determine the elemental composition and to observe the morphology of the coatings. The properties (water adsorption, gel content, etc.) of the coatings were also studied. It was found that the addition of DOPO resulted in a significant improvement in the flame retardant and thermal properties of the coatings. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS :
