Micellar dynamics can be manipulated by the addition of non-ionic or oppositely charged cosurfactant to a sodium dodecyl sulfate solution. Using filtration through nanoporous membranes we have shown that sodium dodecyl sulfate micellar solutions are not only made up of micelles and monomers, but also contain a high concentration of sub-micellar aggregates. The concentration of sub-micellar aggregates decreases as the micellar stability increases. We have investigated the role of micellar stability and sub-micellar aggregates in cleaning of fabrics and hard surfaces such as porcelain dishes. After careful observation, it was determined that more stable micelles and lower concentrations of sub-micellar aggregates lead to more efficient detergency. In summary, it is desirable to have relatively stable micelles and the least number of sub-micellar aggregates for efficient detergency. The EU Ecolabel Detergents Ingredient Database (DID) is a publicly available information basis for derivation of product CDV by providing data on key descriptors for the environmental fate and effects of chemical substances used in consumer products. The alterations of the CDV-relevant descriptors in the revised DID list (2004) have led, in many cases, to an unrealistic depiction of the environmental behaviour of product ingredients and to inadequate product evaluations. The paper reports on the framework of and the experiences with a novel DID list developed by an expert group of the German Hauptausschuss Detergentien (HAD) enabling an environmentally more realistic comparison of products. The thermodynamic properties of aqueous solutions of this ester-quat were investigated using Electrical Conductivity and SurfaceTension measurements. The corresponding parameters of micellisation were determined for each technique. Otherwise the inhibitive action of the ester-quat (12-3-3-3-12) on the corrosion behaviour of iron was investigated in HCl and H2SO4 medium by means Electrochemical Resistance and Polarisation methods. The ester-quat 12-3-3-3-12 acts as a cathodic-type inhibitor. The maximum inhibition efficiency was reached around the critical micellar concentration. The ester-quat appears to be adsorbed in the metal/liquid interface through the general mode following the Frumkin adsorption model. We compare the results of this work with the published one of alkyltrimethylammonium 2-hydroxy-1-carboxy-naphthoate (CxTA 2,1 HCN, x = 16.14 or 12) [2]. With increasing counter-ion surfactant ratio r we observed transition from the isotropic L1-phase to multilamellar vesicles (MLV) La-phase. The single phases are separated by a two phase L1/L alpha region. The phases were characterized with FF-TEM, rheological and SANS measurements. For 100mM solution of either C8TAOH/2,1 HNC or C10TAOH/2,1 HNC, both MLV phases behave like a weak gel and have a yield stress value. It is thus shown that it is possible to prepare viscoelastic surfactant solutions with a small yield stress value from single chain surfactants with decyl or octylchain. Alkyl Triphenylphosphonium Bromide Surfactant Mediated Reactions of p-Nitrophenyl Acetate
Kinetic measurements were performed for the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl acetate as a model compound in micellar media. This reaction was studied both in the presence and absence of various alpha-effect nucleophiles, and in depth analyses were performed using acetohydroxamic acid (AHA). Rate surfactant profiles were obtained in the absence and presence of the AHA nucleophile for the alkyl triphenylphosphonium bromides (CnPPh3Br) surfactant series. All rate surfactant profiles were analyzed using the pseudophase model and modified pseudophase model (In the presence of nucleophile) in order to obtain the regression parameters, including binding constants and rate constants in the micellar pseudophase. Studies in the presence of acetohydroxamic acid and the alkyl triphenylphosphonium surfactants were also conducted as a function of pH to obtain the p-Ka/sub> value of the acetohydroxamic acid in the micellar media.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3218
