Alkyl Triphenylphosphonium Bromide Surfactant Mediated Reactions of p-Nitrophenyl Acetate
Kinetic measurements were performed for the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl acetate as a model compound in micellar media. This reaction was studied both in the presence and absence of various alpha-effect nucleophiles, and in depth analyses were performed using acetohydroxamic acid (AHA). Rate surfactant profiles were obtained in the absence and presence of the AHA nucleophile for the alkyl triphenylphosphonium bromides (CnPPh3Br) surfactant series. All rate surfactant profiles were analyzed using the pseudophase model and modified pseudophase model (In the presence of nucleophile) in order to obtain the regression parameters, including binding constants and rate constants in the micellar pseudophase. Studies in the presence of acetohydroxamic acid and the alkyl triphenylphosphonium surfactants were also conducted as a function of pH to obtain the p-Ka/sub> value of the acetohydroxamic acid in the micellar media.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3218

In sufficiently dilute solutions there are free domiphen cations, which aggregate into two types of micelles at two distinct concentrations, interpreted as the first and second critical micelle concentration, cmc and cmc 2. From the logarithmic dependences of cmc and cmc 2 on the bromide concentrations the corresponding degrees of counterion binding were estimated. Conformation analysis of the domiphen cation was performed and the packing parameters of the lowest energy conformers were calculated. The observed spectral shifts and the calculated packing parameters suggest that two conformers of domiphen cation with different arrangement of the phenoxyethyl group are responsible for the respective formation of two types of micelles. The sensor is based on the competitive adsorption of the surfactants and the fluorescently labeled protein to fullerenols – hydroxylated buckminsterfullerenes. The fluorescence quenching between fullerenols and the fluorochrome-labeled protein was detected and related to the replacement of the labeled protein by the surfactants. The non-ionic surfactants could be measured at sub to low micromolar concentrations whereas significantly higher concentration of ionic surfactants was required to efficiently cover the fullerenol surface. The combination of the novel fullerenol sensor with existing micro titer plate fluorometric instrumentation can find use as a versatile and rapid probe for tracing various types of surface active molecules.
