Température de retraitIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Vegetable tanned leather is very sensitive to environmental factors, especially acidic pollutants. In addition to environmental factors, the type of animal and tannin consumed highly influences the structure and deterioration of leather. Therefore, this comparative study aimed at evaluating the stability of sheep and goat leather, tanned with mimosa extract, during the accelerated aging process. The leathers were submitted to accelerated aging for two weeks at 40°C, 50% RH and 100 ppm SO2 concentration. The attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, colorimetry, fiber-optics reflectance spectroscopy (FORS), pH measurements, investigation of mechanical properties and shrinkage temperature (Ts) were used to investigate influence of the accelerated aging condition on physical and chemical properties of leather. Results showed that sheep leather has better structural stability against acidic deterioration with compared to goat leather. While, goat leather showed higher color stability than sheep leather. Vitamine CIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The application of leather dressing and lubricants is one of the important challenges in conservation of historic dry leathers, due to their effects on structural and visual properties and stability of leathers. This study aimed to investigate influence and stability of silicone oil and polyethylene glycol (PEG) on treated dry leathers, and application assessment of ascorbic acid (AA) as an antioxidant additive for PEG. The polymers, untreated and treated leather samples were submitted to heat accelerated ageing process. FTIR spectroscopy, colorimetry, pH measurements, investigation of mechanical properties and shrinkage temperature (Ts) were used to explain effect of treatments. Also, the oxidation of polymers during ageing process was monitored by FTIR spectroscopy. Results showed that silicone oil has better stability against thermal oxidation with compared to PEG. Ascorbic acid inhibited the PEG oxidation. Moreover, results revealed that the silicone oil has a better performance in treatment of dry leather than PEG or PEG+AA, due to its high stability and minimum changes in visual, structural and mechanical properties in treated leathers. Température de retraitIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Chrome tanning is widely used in the tanning process ; however, it can cause environmental pollution. Leather tanned with epoxy resin was considered as a more environmentally friendlyprocess, but it takes as long as five days for reaction, and results in poor performance of leather. The aim of the present study was to tan leather collagen with a carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin, which was thought to be an eco-friendly tanning process and the reaction time was shortened to 12h. The reaction between carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin and leather collagen can be divided into two stages, the reaction of epoxy group with leather collagen and the reaction of carboxyl group with leather collagen. The influences of tanning conditions (medium pH, epoxy resin amount and reaction time) on the properties of tanned leather were also discussed. In the first stage, the epoxy group was reacted with leather collagen in basic conditions. The results showed that the carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin could better penetrate into the leather fibers when the pH value was 8.5, and the best effect of tanned leather collagen was found using reaction condition of pH 7.0. In the second stage, it was the reaction of carboxyl group to leather collagen in acid conditions, and the best effect was found under the condition of pH was 3.5. Meanwhile, it provided a better tanning effect when the carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin amount was 6% and the reaction time was 12h. The chrome-less tanning process that carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin combination with 3% chrome was studied. The results showed that the hydrothermal stability and strength properties of leather tanned by carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin with 3% chrome were close, even superior, to those of the leather produced by conventional chrome tanning with 8% chrome. C’est un métal pauvre, malléable, de couleur argent, qui est remarquable pour sa résistance à l’oxydation13 et sa faible densité. C'est le métal le plus abondant de l'écorce terrestre et le troisième élément le plus abondant après l'oxygène et le silicium ; il représente en moyenne 8 % de la masse des matériaux de la surface solide de notre planète. L'aluminium est trop réactif pour exister à l'état natif dans le milieu naturel : on le trouve au contraire sous forme combinée dans plus de 270 minéraux différents, son minerai principal étant la bauxite, où il est présent sous forme d’oxyde hydraté dont on extrait l’alumine. Il peut aussi être extrait de la néphéline, de la leucite, de la sillimanite, de l'andalousite et de la muscovite.
L'aluminium métallique est très oxydable, mais est immédiatement passivé par une fine couche d'alumine Al2O3 imperméable de quelques micromètres d'épaisseur qui protège la masse métallique de la corrosion. On parle de protection cinétique, par opposition à une protection thermodynamique, car l’aluminium reste en tout état de cause très sensible à l'oxydation. Cette résistance à la corrosion et sa remarquable légèreté en ont fait un matériau très utilisé industriellement.
L'aluminium est un produit industriel important, sous forme pure ou alliée, notamment dans l'aéronautique, les transports et la construction. Sa nature réactive en fait également un catalyseur et un additif dans l'industrie chimique ; il est ainsi utilisé pour accroître la puissance explosive du nitrate d'ammonium.

In this work, the shrinkage reaction of leather was examined for the first time using modulated temperature differential scanning calorimetry (MTDSC). The shrinkage reaction was first measured using conventional differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the parameters for leather shrinkage used to develop the parameters for the application of MTDSC to leather samples. Trials with leather confirm the irreversible nature of the shrinkage reaction within the experimental protocol used. Tannage Résumé : Vegetable tanned leathers with good embossing, air permeability, natural look and pleasing firm handle properties have applied in many goods with multiple uses. However, the performances of vegetable tanned leathers still need a further improvement. In this work, a kind of nonionic gemini aliphatic polyurethane surfactants (GPUs) with different hydrophobic chain lengths as a retanning agent combined with polyacrylic acid (PAA) for condensed tannin tanned leathers to improve their performances. The effects of the alone or combined use of the PAA and GPU, the hydrophobic chain length of GPU, and the offer percentage of retanning agent were studied by evaluating the organoleptic properties, shrinkage temperature, mechanical properties of the obtained leathers. The best performance was found in the leather retanned with PAA and 12-GPU-550 complex retanning agent, and the mechanical properties of leather could be improved when the total offer percentage was controlled at 4 wt%. Moreover, the collagen fibers morphologies and lightfastness properties of leathers retanned with different retanning agents were investigated. The results showed that the total color difference ΔE and the yellowness index Δb decreased significantly with the introduction of 12-GPU-550, and the leather retanned with PAA and 12-GPU-550 complex retanning agent showed the lowest value of ΔE, demonstrating that the lightfastness properties were improved significantly. Therefore, it was an attractive way to combine use of PAA and 12-GPU-550 as complex retanning agent, which can improve the mechanical and lightfastness properties of vegetable tanned leathers simultaneously.
