Quebracho est l'un des noms communs, en espagnol, d'au moins trois espèces similaires d'arbres originaires du Gran Chaco, en Amérique latine : Schinopsis lorentzii (quebracho colorado santiagueño), de la famille des Anacardiaceae ; Schinopsis balansae (quebracho colorado chaqueño), de la même famille ;

Tannage Résumé : To demonstrate the utility of the powdered hide model for vegetable tanning studies, interactions of quebracho with samples of powdered hide prepared from partially processed hides were investigated. Hides were dehaired by a typical sulfide or oxidative method and carried through the delime/bate step of a tanning process. Prior to tanning, the powdered hide from oxidative dehairing was on average slightly more susceptible to attack by collagenase than was the powdered hide from sulfide dehairing. After tanning with as little as 20% quebracho, powdered hide from both processes was well protected against collagenase degradation. Apparent shrinkage temperatures ranged between 79°C and 87°C , increasing with increased quebracho offer. Shrinkage temperatures for quebracho-treated oxidatively powdered hides were generally 2°C lower than for sulfide dehaired samples. This contrasts with no difference in shrinkage temperature for chrome tanned powdered hides. Comparison of micrographs of powdered hide treated with crude and purified quebracho suggest that the tanning effect of quebracho is both a function of quebracho/collagen interactions, and the filling effect of other components of the crude quebracho.
• limiter le fluage ;
• limiter le taux de matières volatiles ;

Tannage Résumé : A collagen-based waterborne polyurethane retanning agent was prepared by prepolymerization, using isophorone diisocyanate polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG, Mn-2000), 1, 4-butanediol (BDO), dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) and triethylamine (TEA), the collagen powder was added during the synthesis to modify the waterborne polyurethane. The collagen-based waterborne polyurethane was characterised via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-1R) and size analysis, the results showed that the collagen was grafted onto the main chain of polyurethane, the emulsion had a.uniform particle size distribution, the average particle size was 70nm. The prepared emulsion was used in retanning, the application result showed that the collagen-based waterborne polyurethane retanning agent had a good affect for leather filling, especially in the belly. The shrinkage temperature, tensile strength and tear resistance were all raised. The retannage can also help to overcome the question of pastel shades.

Tannage Résumé : In this paper, montmorillonite (MMT) was first modified with dimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride (referred to as DMDAAC) and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) through a cation exchanging reaction. The modified MMT and the vinyl polymer were then used to prepare composites which were then characterized by XRD. Finally, the vinyl polymer/CTAB modified MMT (abbreviated to VP/C-MMT) was applied in the leather making process to examine its tanning properties.
The results of XRD show that the interlayer spacing of the modified MMT is received are 1.40nm and 1.99nm for DMDAAC-MMT and CTAB-MMT respectively, while the d-spacing distance of pristine MMT is only 1.23nm. The composites of DMDAAC modified MMT and VP are phase separated, while CTAB modified MMT formed intercalated nanocomposites with VP.
The application results show, that the shrinkage temperature of leather tanned by VP/C-MMT nano-tannage associated with 2% chrome under optimum process conditions can be raised to 90°C, the strength properties and the water permeability of tanned leather are closely similar to those of a 8% chrome tanned leather, meanwhile, the incrassation rates [thickness increment ratios] are far geater than for the 8% chrome tanned leather. We conclude that the nano tannage is an appropriate application in a reduced-chrome tannage.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Major chemicals - Synthesis of vinyl polymer - Preparation of modified MMT - Preparation of composites - Application of VP/C-MMT nano tannage - Characterization and measurement

Tannage Résumé : Amino resins are one of the most important retanning agents used in the leather industry. However, the generally presence of formaldehyde greatly restricts the widespread application of amino resins. In this study, furfural, an organic compound derived from biomass material, was used to substitute for formaldehyde in the synthesis of melamine resin based on an alkaline-acid procedure. The as-synthesized formaldehyde-free melamine resin (MRf) showed excellent performances in leather processing. FTIR and 13C-NMR were used to characterize the chemical structure of MRf. The particle size as well as zeta potential were also determined. The retanning performances of MRf indicated that the overall performances of MRf are comparable to conventional formaldehyde contained melamine resin (MR) and commercial melamine resin (CMR). In particular, the thickness of the leather retanned by MRf was enhanced around 10.33%, which is significantly higher than that of controls MR (6.16%) and CMR (5.94%). Color measurements showed that MRf imparted leather with higher dark intensity. This present work demonstrated that furfural could be a potential candidate to replace formaldehyde in the production of formaldehyde-free melamine resin.
