TransglutaminaseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Microbial transglutaminases(MTG) was used to pre-tan hide to investigate its effect on the hydrothermal stability of hide and the improvement for exhaustion of chrome tanning agent. This study tested the shrinkage temperatures of samples treated with MTG only and tanned MTG followed by the chrome tanning agent separately. The Cr2O3 content in effluents was surveyed after chrome tanning. It was shown that the shrinkage temperature of hide sample treated with 0.6% MTG at pH 6.0 for 2h was above 80°C, much higher than 54.8°C, which is the Ts of control. While the Ts of leather sample, which was pre-treated with 0.6% of MTG first, tanned with only 4% chrome tanning agent were higher than 100°C, but initial pH is 2.0. Moreover, the exhaustion of chrome tanning agent in leather was improved significantly when the dosage of chrome salt was less than 4%. Note de contenu : - The amount of MTG and pre-tanning time

Température de retraitIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Auto oxidation of oil is a moderate free radical chain reaction, started by homolytic fission of allylic hydrogen, which is a very receptive site in unsaturated hydrocarbon. This procedure converts unsaturated oil to oxygenated compounds, for example, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, anhydrides etc. When these secondary oxidized products, specially aldehydes, reacts with amino acids of collagen, they stabilize the skin. Stabilization of collagen with oil is well known as chamois leather processing. In this investigation, an attempt has been made to decrease the span of chamois leather process and comprehend the procedure of oil tanning utilizing benzoyl per oxide as an oxidizing agent. It is plausible that the generation of unsaturated aldehydes has been upgraded by the utilization of oxidizing agent, which thus decreased the tanning time from 15 to 4 days. The experimental chamois leather had high water absorption (higher by 26%) than the control oil tanned leather. Further, physical strength properties, for example, tensile, tear and percentage elongation of chamois leather were seen to be comparable to control leathers. Organoleptic properties, for example, color, softness and odor of chamois leathers were enhanced compared with control leather. This study opens another path in the search of new oxidizing agents as a catalyst to decrease the duration of chamois leather making. Tannage Résumé : The manufacture of grain and split leather is simplified by pretanning cattle hides, either after bating or during pickling, with a chromium-free tanning agent until the shrinkage temperature reaches between 170° and 185°F. The pretanned hide is then split to provide a grain and a split intermediate, then these components are shaved and tanned. The entire hide treatment sequence can be effected in two stages : first, beaming, lime fleshing (if necessary), bating, and pretanning before or during pickling ; second, wringing, splitting, sorting, and shaving. The tanning is done after shaving in the the second stage and is followed by coloring and fatliquoring. The resulting chrome-tanned leather has very good physical properties, good fullness, and produces a higher area yield.
The pretanned splits can be sorted and shaved for different types of leather, such as vegetable tan, chrome-vegetable tan, etc., and thus be increased in their value.
The shavings contain no chromium and very littls salt. Hence they have many moreuses, or they can be disposed of by dumping without significant environmental impact.
Much less chrome is needed to tan the leather because the tanning chemicals are used only on the shaved weight. Also, there is less spent chrome to be recycled and reused. The spent liquor can be used either as the float for a new batch of grains or for tanning the splits.Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Shrinkage temperatures at various stages of pretanning process

Tannage Résumé : A new pretanning agent (HTPA) for high exhaustion chrome tannage 2,4-di-(1-hydroxymethyl-1, 2, 4-triazole-5-thione)-1,5-phthalic acid and 2,5-di-(1-hydroxymethyl-1, 2, 4-triazole-5-thione) -1,4-phthalic acid, has been synthesized from pyromellitic dianhydride and thiosemicarbazide. Its reaction with pelts and its effect on chrome uptake have been studied by applying it to delimed sheepskins and goatskins. The results show that HTPA reacts mainly with the amino groups in collagen to form crosslinks and that the reaction depends on the pH, temperature, time and amount of HTPA. Pelt pretanned with HTPA possesses a higher shrinkage temperature than control pelts. Subsequent chrome tanning results in a significant increase in chromium uptake, thus the chrome offer in conventional chrome tanning can be reduced significantly. The handle and the physical properties of pretanned crust leather are not too different from those of control crust leather.
