Métaux -- Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The term resource efficiency is used widely in the paints and coatings market. The aim is to offer customers the products they need in order to produce resource-efficient paints and coatings. The term resource efficiency here characterizes the bundling of the environmental and economic pillars of sustainability. More than any other sector, the corrosion protection market is showing the impact that the use of perfectly tailored pigments and binder systems can have on the function of the coating as a whole and also on the protection/durability of valuable objects. Thermal stability and frequency sweep experiments were performed in the melt state at 270 °C. The influences of drying temperature, testing atmosphere (air or nitrogen), and preparation (granules vs. samples cut from compression molded sheets) were investigated. Results indicated that a higher drying temperature promoted complex viscosity significantly and compression molded sheets generated irreversible structural changes in harsh conditions. The samples measured in air decreased because of thermo-oxidation degradation, whereas that in nitrogen unexpectedly increased slightly because of polycondensation without surface renewal. The role of carboxyl end group towards PET thermal stability was found to be influenced by the atmosphere.

Spectroscopie RamanIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A newly developed, polyurethane-based, marine antifouling coating, containing 2% immobilized Econea, was examined in terms of its anticorrosion performance. The novelty of the experimental formulation arises from the immobilization of the biocide which minimizes leaching and was accomplished via a newly developed functionalization method, based on reaction of the biocide with highly reactive isocyanate functionality. The painting system was applied on steel specimens, then scribed with a sharp cutter and examined for 12 weeks in cyclic salt spray exposure. Identification of the rust morphologies was performed with XRD, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, and EDS methods. The absence of paint deformation during the experiment led to the formation of compact corrosion products, firmly adherent to the substrate, allowing transformation to more protective forms, such as oxides (hematite, maghemite, magnetite) and the least harmful of the oxyhydroxides (goethite, feroxyhyte), found in the mixture, ensuring sufficient corrosion protection. The unscratched part of the paint served as a barrier to corrosion product expansion beyond the scribed areas. An acrylic-based antifouling system was also examined for reasons of comparison. The experimental formulation exhibited superior anticorrosion performance overall, since the acrylic system presented extended material loss, blistering, checking, and extensive substrate rust coverage beneath the multilayer coat, implying unsatisfactory corrosion protection. Revêtements -- Effets du climatIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Chemiluminescence (CL) is a sensitive method of investigating the thermo-oxidative stability of polymers in the early stages of degradation. Therefore, CL measurements were applied to different automotive coatings to evaluate their degradation behavior during artificial weathering. In this work, CL measurements were carried out for different automotive coatings to follow their degradation behavior during artificial weathering. The CL emission depends on sample-specific parameters like stabilizer, matrix, or hardener; experimental parameters like the oxygen partial pressure; and exposure parameters like the duration of weathering. The potential of CL could be demonstrated by classifying materials into categories of good, medium, and low degradation performance at a much earlier stage of weathering exposure than in combination with the usual visual detection of weathering effects.
