Titre : Histology of cockle lesions on new zealand lamb skins Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : George Halligan, Auteur ; Alastair C. Johnstone, Auteur Année de publication : 1992 Article en page(s) : p. 39-51 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Scatter cockle is a defect on New Zealand lamb skins, the histological nature of which has formerly only been investigated on samples from partly processed (pickled) skins. By using a novel sampling/processing technique, presumptive cockle nodules in green skin only 6 hours post flay were examined. The histology of such areas of skin reaction suggest that scatter cockle is a recurrent type 1 hypersensitivity perivascular dermatitic response of the skin. Parasites commonly induce such lesions, and as ovine stock in this country commonly carry a louse (Damalinia ovis) burden, this is suggested to be the causal agent of cockle. Santa Barbara Amorphous-15Santa Barbara Amorphous-15 (SBA-15) is a highly stable mesoporous silica sieve developed by researchers at the University of California at Santa Barbara. It gets it high hydrothermal and mechanical stability from a framework of uniform hexagonal pores that feature a narrow pore-size distribution and a tunable pore diameter of 5nm to 15nm, but, most significantly, from its relatively thick walls, which range between 3.1nm and 6.4nm. SBA mesoporous silica 15 has a high internal surface area, which lends itself to various applications, including environmental adsorption and separation, advanced optics, and catalysts. Based on “masking mechanism” from tanning, lactic acid was used as masking agent to obtain the uniform distribution of Zr and Ti species in the SBA-15 framework. The obtained materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron (XPS). The results reveal that in mesoporous materials, the presence of lactic acid gives rise to the uniform distribution of Zr and Ti species. The adsorption equilibrium and kinetic studies of Zr-Ti-SBA-15 materials show that the adsorption process conforms to the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, respectively. Regenerational experiments show that the Zr-Ti-SBA-15 displays a significant adsorption ability for methylene blue (MB) (up to 291.6 mg/g), along with good reusability, indicating promising potentials of commercialization. Methodologically, this work provides a wide range of possibilities for further development of SBA-15 based on bimetallic and sewage disposal. Produits chimiques -- MigrationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Most of us will have seen a change in the colour of finished leather which has taken place subsequent to the application of an aqueous top coat. Immediately the leather has been finished it matches the standard colour pattern; sometime later the colour has changed. There are three possible reasons : bleeding of colour from the base to the top, yellowing and discoloration caused by light, change due to exposure to heat and humidity. Titre : How much Cr(VI) is formed during extraction of leather with phospahte buffer ? Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Dipankar Chaudhuri, Auteur ; Ratna Chakraborti, Auteur ; Pinaki Bhattacharya, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 119-128 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Hexavalent chromium is not used at any stage of leather processing and leather possesses a reducing property. Therefore, hexavalent chromium is not likely to be present in leather. Nevertheless, Cr(VI) has been reported to be present. At the moment it is not clear whether the positive test results are indeed the consequence of hexavalent chromium extraction from leather or not. Despite this, Cr(VI) formation during extraction has been suggested as a probable reason for most of the positive test results. In the present investigation, leather analyses were carried out using different buffer solutions and also the same buffer solution at different pH values. Analysis for Cr(VI) was carried out under simulated extraction conditions also. The results of all these experiments indicate that the amount of Cr(VI) formed during extraction is too little to be considered as an important reason behind testing that yields positive findings of Cr(VI).
