What is obtained through this new process is a dry and very porous collagenous substrate which allows the application of tanning chemicals by immersion in aqueous solutions. When compared to existing, traditional processes, economic and environmental advantages are obtained from the use of this new material. More specifically, the new process results in reductions in water use (18%), chemical use (39%), and process time (11%). Spectrométrie de masseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) arise from the chemicals used in the various stages of the leather manufacturing process. An important aim of the tanning industry is to minimize or eliminate VOCs and SVOCs, without lowering the quality of leather.
This paper shows the development of a new headspace-solid phase micro extraction coupled with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS) method for the identification of VOCs and SVOCs emitted by newly designed polymers for the leather finishing operation. These new polymers are polyurethane resins designed to reduce the VOC and SVOC concentration. This method enables a simple and fast determination of the qualitative and semi-quantitative content of VOCs and SVOCs in polyurethane-type finishing resins. The chemicals that are of concern in this paper are the following: Dipropylene glycol Monomethyl Ether (DPGME), DBE-3 (a mixture of dibasic esters) and Triethylamine (TEA). The test conditions that have been determined to carry out the HS-SPME assay are the following: incubation time (2 hours), extraction temperature and time (40°C; 5 minutes) and the desorption conditions (280°C, 50 seconds).
Ten samples of laboratory scale resins were tested by HS-SPME followed by gas chromatography (GC-MS). DPGME and DBE-3 (a mixture of dimethyl adipate, dimethyl glutarate and dimethyl succinate) have been identified effectively. The compounds are identified by a quantitative method using external calibration curves for the target compounds. The technique is not effective to determine the TEA compound, since the chromatograms shown poor resolution peaks for the standard.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Chemicals and reagents - Chromatography - HS-SPME method

Textiles et tissus à usages techniquesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The aim of this work was to develop new systems of micro/nanocomposites to confer new functions to materials used for seats of public vehicles and public spaces. Specifically, this study focuses on antibacterial effect for leather and technical textile substrates.
The first stage of the research consists of a selection of micro/micro/nanomaterials and active principles: selection and evaluation of micro/nanoparticles, antibacterial and antifungal substances. In the second stage, the process of encapsulation of active principles was studied. The research includes optimization of the encapsulation process by improving the size and stability of the capsules. In addition, the synthesis of a hybrid organic-inorganic polymer acting as a micro/micro/nanomaterial carrier was developed.
To understand the mechanisms of synthesis and action of micro/micro/nanomaterials, characterization techniques have been used: scanning electron microscopy SEM and optical microscopy, analysis and distribution of particle size (DLS, Zetasizer). Regarding the antibacterial and antifungal ability of micro/nanocomposites, we adapted standard ASTM 2180-07 "Test methods for determining the activity or incorporated antimicrobial agent (s) in polymeric or hydrophobic materials."
Different products have been developed and the results obtained allow us to conclude that the synthesized products showed inhibition to the growth of bacteria and fungi on the contact surface.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Reagents - Characterization of the products obtained

Specifically, we want to obtain a flame retardant effect using nanostructured coatings that confer thermal stability and fire resistance. The different nanomaterials should be included in a polymeric matrix ; the hybrid organic-inorganic polymers will act as carriers of the nanomaterials, with the ability to interact with the nanoparticles and walls of the nanocapsules. In addition, they must show affinity for the collagen, in order to be introduced in the three-dimensional structure of leather and fixing them on its surface, as well as interacting with the textile substrate. The flame retardant capacity of the two synthesised products has been achieved according to regulations UNE-EN 1021:06 part 1 and 2 and standard UNE 23723 : 1990.
