The solvent induced deformation under tensile load leads to surface fissures characterized by four stages: fissure formation (birth), incipient draw (neck formation), partial draw, and full draw. This process results in internal void formation in the presence of a propagating neck. A design of experiment (DOE) was performed to screen out the process parameters critical for understanding surface fissure formation. Four process parameters were investigated: initial material properties (orien„tation) ; environment of draw (i.e. type of alcohols used as solvent) ; rate of extension ; and amount of extension. The response of solvent induced deformation were characterized by the natural draw force reduction ; number of fissures formed at time of birth, fissure width at time of formation, and neck angle. Of all the four process parameters involved, the analysis indicates that the material properties and amount of extension were the best predictors of solvent induced fissure formation. Organic solvents reduce the tension required for draw and create internal voids, a porous network, with possibly the penetrant being "sucked" into the interior of PET fibers drawn in the presence of alcohols. Particules (matières)Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Background : The deposit and adherence of particulate matter (PM) from aerial pollution onto the surface of human hair is a poorly studied phenomenon.
Objectives : (i) To reproduce in vitro the deposit of known PM on standardized hair swatches in a closed box, (ii) to compare in vitro data with those obtained under ‘real-life’ conditions of severe aerial pollution and (iii) to assess the changes of the hair surface properties, potentially caused by the adherence of airborne PM onto the hair.
Methods : In vitro : a PM was sprayed onto untreated or sebum-coated hair swatches. Real-life conditions : other swatches were exposed to a severely polluted environment, for 24 to 72 h, in Baoding (PR China). In both cases, swatches were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The shine, the frictional properties and the level of metals were measured and compared to those same properties for the unexposed swatches.
Results : This work clearly indicates that, under real-life conditions, a large number of PM of various sizes are deposited onto the hair surface. This phenomenon is increased by the presence of sebum and longer exposure times. The in vitro level of PM deposited onto the hair surface is comparable to the in vivo level. The presence of sebum seems to favour the deposit of larger PM. The shine of the exposed swatches is significantly decreased, whereas their respective friction coefficients are significantly increased. Both the presence of sebum and length of exposure time increased the amount of analysed metals present on the exposed hair surface (Al, Fe, Cu, Ba and Zn).
Conclusion : This work indicates that a very high amount (e.g. billions) of PM can be deposited on a full head of hair for subjects living in a severely aerially polluted environment. This process can be reproduced in vitro. In real-life, pollution has a strong impact on hair surface properties, leading to a modification of the visual aspect (loss of shine) and the alteration of hair surface (increase in friction force). This work may be used to pave the way for prevention and cleansing studies in the field of hair care.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Hair swatches - In vitro and real-life protocols - Instrumental and visual/tactile determinations - Statistics

The influence of various parameters such as water content, pH of the mixture, and time were examined. The resultant samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, and thermal gravimetric observation. The experimental results showed that δ-layered sodium disilicate was first transformed to kanemite (NaHSi2O4(OH)2 · 2H2O), and subsequently kanemite was pillared with bisoctyl dimethyl ammonium chloride or dioctadecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride. The tribological properties of typical samples then were investigated by point contact test. The results show that the pillared derivatives have good load-carrying capacity and friction-reducing property. To solve this problem, the copolymer of fluorinated acrylate resin was synthesized and the resisting fluid film was prepared. The proprieties of the fluorinated acrylate resin coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), measuring the contact angle of the droplet liquid on the surface of the coating, the influence of acidic environment, the adhesion to substrate material, and analyzing thermogravimetry (TG) and Gas Chromatography (GC). It was found that the fluorinated acrylate resin film is a kind of resisting fluid film with excellent property and it is safe, nontoxic and readily biodegradable. So it was said a very potential dairy packaging material. The results showed that DTMG could form bicarbonate ionic adduct after exposed to CO2, so it could be used as CO2 switchable surfactants. By bubbling CO2 through DTMG solution or heating COZ saturated DTMG solution, the alkali and surface active properties of solution was changed reversibly. Emulsion and foam stabilized by DTMG could be controlled between stable and unstable state by CO2. In addition, the state of DTMG solution was easy to be distinguished by naked eye through a simple indicator, phenolphthalein. Pink indicated it was inactive, and colorless indicated it was active.
