Removal of reactive dyes from wastewater by acrylate polymer beads bearing amino groups : isotherm and kinetic studies in COLORATION TECHNOLOGY, Vol. 129, N° 2 (04/2013)
[article]
Titre : Removal of reactive dyes from wastewater by acrylate polymer beads bearing amino groups : isotherm and kinetic studies Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 2013 Article en page(s) : p. 114-124 Note générale : Bibliogr.

To prepare the resin, poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) beads were grafted with poly(glycidyl methacrylate) by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerisation. Epoxy groups of the grafted polymer were modified with tris(2-aminoethyl)amine ligand. The modified resin was characterised by swelling studies, FT-IR and SEM. Three different reactive dyes were selected (CI Reactive Brown 10, CI Reactive Red 120 and CI Reactive Green 5) and used in the removal studies. The effects of pH, temperature, ionic strength and initial dye concentration on the adsorption capacity of the resin were investigated. The adsorption capacity of the resin for Reactive Brown 10, Reactive Red 120 and Reactive Green 5 was 0.029 ± 0.010, 0.032 ± 0.0019 and 0.042 ± 0.0013 mmol/g resin (34.1 ± 1.2, 47.6 ± 2.3 and 69.3 ± 1.7 mg/g resin) respectively. The equilibrium adsorption data were analysed by Langmuir, Dubinin–Radushkevich, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models. A good fit was found between the Langmuir isotherm and data for the three dyes on resin. The adsorption kinetic data were modelled using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion kinetic equations. It was found that the pseudo-second-order equation could describe the adsorption kinetics. The results indicated that the modified resin is an attractive alternative for removing reactive dyes from wastewater. The wide application of cationic acrylate polymer emulsion in national production is due to its good balance of positive and negative charges, and this performance is significantly better than traditional anionic acrylate polymer emulsions. From the perspective of composition and process, the cationic acrylate emulsion is modified to improve its bad performance, or to make it more excellent. Research and development trends include more extensive applications and more environmental protection. This article reviews the research progress of cationic acrylate polymer emulsions, including research on organic fluorine¬modified cationic acrylates, research on organic silicon-modified cationic acrylates, and new emulsifiers-modified cationic acrylates. At the same time, its development prospects are considered. Note de contenu : - Organic fluorine modified cationic acrylate

PolyuréthanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The emulsifier molecules used in the production of traditional polyacrylate emulsion are relatively small. They are difficult to remove after the emulsion is synthesised. It is easy to produce foam, which has an impact on the environment and affects the purity and application performance of the polymer emulsion, especially its surface properties and water resistance. The emulsifier free emulsion polymerisation has high purity, stable emulsion and uniform particle size, and the reaction emulsifier itself has a C=C double bond, which can react with the monomer and reduce environmental pollution. The polymerised product also has good water resistance and chemical stability. Therefore, soap free emulsions have attracted much attention. The following three aspects are discussed in this paper: silicone-modified soap free acrylate, fluorinated-modified soap free acrylic ester and polyamide-modified soap free acrylate. The modification of soap free acrylate polymer emulsion is studied. It is hoped that an emulsion with good comprehensive properties can be obtained and its development direction is also discussed. The advancement of waterborne coatings in plastics is reviewed.
Plastic products have been more and more widely used and has become one of the indispensable important materials in many fields with the rapid development of the plastics industry. However, some properties of the plastics, such as wear resistance and ageing resistance are weak. Thus, coatings are used to improve the applicability of the plastics in all aspects, which are coated on the surface. At present, coatings, such as single-component thermoplastic acrylic coatings, two-component solvent polyvinyl chloride acrylate coatings, chlorinated polyolefin coatings and nitrocellulose coatings have been used to modify the plastic products.
However, some above used coatings belong to the solvant plastic coatings, which contain some organic solvents, such as benzene, alcohols and hydrocarbon or oxygen solvent in the process of production. The organic solvants are harmful to the environment and human body due to their initial formaldehyde, aromatic and all kinds of harmful volatile substances. Furthermore, some plastic products cannot resist the organic solvents". Thus, more and more attention has been paid to the waterborne plastic coatings, which are friendly to the environment. Waterborne coatings are based on water soluble resins or different types of dispersion resins. Usually, they are composed of different kinds of waterbased resins, pigments, extenders and additives. In this paper, the advancement of waterborne coatings in plastics is reviewed.Note de contenu : - Waterborne acrylate coatings
