Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, a fixation test, extraction with boiling N,N-dimethylformamide, and a colour fastness test certified that DHEASPBr-C2 was linked to the cotton fibre through covalent bonds. The results showed that dyed cotton fabric using DHEASPBr-C2 had an obvious fluorescent effect in the range 550–700 nm, and the emission peak location was 588–590 nm. In addition, the dyed fabric met the EN471:2003 standard for chromaticity and could be used in high-visibility warning clothing. The dye was characterised by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry, ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrometry, and single-photon fluorescence spectrometry. The prepared dye was applied to wool fabrics to give fluorescent orange shades. The colour fastness of the dyed wool fabrics was tested. Results show that dyed fabrics using the novel hemicyanine fluorescent reactive cationic dye could be used as fluorescent clothing. Volumétrie (chimie analytique)Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A reactive dye, Novacron Deep Orange S-4R, and an anti-bacterial precursor, 4-(4-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinol)-6-chloro-1,3,5-triazinylamino)-benzenesulphonate, both of which are monohalogenated-s-triazine–based compounds, were chosen for the simultaneous dyeing and anti-bacterial finishing of cotton fabric. To effectively reduce the emissions of pollutants and the dosage of sodium sulphate added during dyeing and finishing, a cationisation reagent, 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride, was used to modify cotton fabric before dyeing and finishing. The cationised cotton fabrics obtained 0.18% active chlorine loadings and good dye depth after the simultaneous dyeing and finishing process with low addition of sodium sulphate. The chlorinated fabrics inactivated all inoculated Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative) within 10 minutes of contact. The treated cotton fabric maintained high breaking strength as well as good washing stability.

Solutions (chimie)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Starch-g-poly(acrylic acid)/organo-mordenite superabsorbent composite microsphere, was prepared by grafting partially neutralized acrylic acid onto starch in the presence of organo-mordenite as an inorganic component. The morphology was characterized with scanning electron microscope (SEM). The swelling properties of the superabsorbent composite microsphere were evaluated in distilled water, various NaCl solutions, solutions with different pH values, and urea solutions. Swelling kinetics of the superabsorbent composite microsphere in above environments were discussed by means of a Schott's second-order model. The results showed that the incorporation of 10 wt% organo-mordenite enhanced the water absorbency by 144% (from 268 to 655 g · g?1) and possessed the maximum swelling absorbency (75 g · g?1) in the 0.9% NaCl solution and (667 g · g?1) in 0.04 mol · l?1 urea solution. Moreover, swelling of starch-g-poly(acrylic acid)/organo-mordenite (with 10 wt% organo-mordenite) in distilled water and in all other environments followed Schott's second order kinetics. Swelling was extremely environmental-responsive to the concentration of the NaCl solution, the pH values, and urea solutions, respectively. The overall results inferred that the novel superabsorbent composite can be exploited for many potential applications. Transparence (optique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of optically transparent and colorless polyimide (CPI) coatings for quartz optical fibers (QOFs) protection were prepared by the copolymerization of two aromatic dianhydrides, 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (BPDA) and 2,2′-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA), and 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFMB) by a two-step polymerization procedure via the soluble poly(amic acid) (PAA) precursors followed by thermal imidization at elevated temperatures. Various QOFs with the flexible and tough CPI coatings were successfully fabricated. Scanning electron microscopy measurements revealed that the CPI coatings tightly adhered to the quartz optical fibers without adding any adhesion promoters. The CPI coatings exhibited good optical transparency with the transmittance higher than 83% at 450 nm at a thickness of 10 μm, high lightness (L* > 93), low yellow indices (b* as low as 2.66), and low turbidity (haze as low as 0.57%). In addition, the CPI coatings exhibited good thermal and dimensional stability with glass transition temperatures (Tg) higher than 349°C and coefficients of linear thermal expansion (CTE) as low as 6.8 × 10−6/K in the range of 50–300°C.
