SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : A novel polyether esterquat (EQDMS-3EO) was obtained by ethoxylation followed by quaternization of an ester-amine. Its structure and performance were examined. The softening, antistatic, rewettability properties and fabric whiteness impact were determined and compared to conventional esterquat compounds, known from the art in the field. The results showed that antistatic and rewettability properties of the EO-modified EQDMS-3EO were better than those of the conventional counterparts, and its softening property was comparable or better. As a result, EQDMS-3EO is a new softener with superior properties. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Material - Analytical methods - Synthesis methods - Performance tests

EstersIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The long reaction time and low conversion of the existing technologies in indirect synthesis of disodium mono-fatty alcohol citrate constrain their industrialized application. Here, we developed a new technology and synthesized a series of monoester of citric acid salts different carbon atoms in hydrophobic group. The structures of intermediate and products were defined by infrared spectra and hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. Their physico-chemical properties were systematically studied for the first time, including equilibrium surface tension, wetting ability, emulsification stability and foaming behavior in aqueous solution. The results show that ifs the number of carbon atoms in the hydrophobic group increases, the critical micelle concentration (CMC) decreases, wetting ability weakens, the foaming volume in hard water increases and emulsification stability for liquid paraffin and bean oil increases, but opposite for oil acid. TriméthylolpropaneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Tall oil fatty acids (TOFA) were esterified with trimethylolpropane (TMP) without a catalyst at different molar ratios of TMP to TOFA. A molar ratio was defined, at which a polyol stable in long-term storage, with the maximum content of TMP monoesters, was synthesized. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography were used for the identification of the polyols’ chemical structure and composition. Based on the synthesized polyols, polyurethane coatings were prepared. The effect of the isocyanate index and concentration of traditional Sn-based and less toxic Bi-based catalysts on the gel time of the polyurethane composition, and the mechanical and thermal properties of the coatings was studied. It was found that the new coatings had high tensile strength and modulus of elasticity, comparable with the strength and modulus of the polyurethane based on diethanolamides of TOFA. The initial temperature of decomposition of these coatings was higher than that of the polyurethanes based on esters of TOFA and a number of uralkyds. The coatings based on TMP esters of TOFA were obtained without the use of solvents, and potentially, these esters can be used in spray-applied VOC-free polyurethane coatings’ formulation. EstersIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Esters are one of the most widely used types of chemical compound in the world today. Their simple but versatile chemistry is used in applications as diverse as plastics, resins, explosives, bio-fuel, lubricants, paper, and in cosmetics and the personal care indutry. The majority of esters and either derived synthetically from petroleum or from natural triglycerides. The basic synthesis is shown in Figure 1. Petroleum-derived esters are expected to become more expensive due to the extreme variability of crude oil prices, which is likely to reduce their use. Growth in the global ester market is expected to be primarily driven by the increasing demand to esters in the biofuel and cosmetic industries. There is also an increasing demand for natural alternatives to petroleum-derivatives in personal care, which could be met by increased use of naturally derived esters.
