SorbitolIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The aim of the present study was to develop pegylated cellulose acetate coating layer having leachable membrane created by controlled porosity osmotic pump (CPOP) technique. Already optimized core tablets of Captopril were used for the application of CPOP. In Box–Behnken design, cellulose acetate, polyethylene glycol, and sorbitol were used as variables and %Captopril release as a response for the coating process. Formulations were characterized by weight gain, thickness of leachable membrane, content uniformity, drug release, pH, dissolution medium osmolality effect, FTIR, and stability analysis for the optimization purpose. Optimized formulation was within the pharmacopoeial limits. Observed weight gain was 4.38–6.97%, and thickness of leachable membrane was 1.24–1.47 mm. Content uniformity was found to be 91.65–99.61%. Phosphate buffer of pH 6.8 showed 86.22–92.79% drug release and the first-order release pattern. pH-independent but osmolality-dependent drug release was observed. No incompatibility between the ingredients of prepared dosage form was observed in FTIR analysis. Accelerated stability study for 6 months showed no significant change in the prepared dosage form. Conclusively, prepared CPOP tablets can be used for the controlled release of Captopril in hypertensive patients to maintain the desired drug concentration within the body for required time period. SorbitolIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The cyclic carbonate derivatives carrying carboxyl groups were prepared via the reaction of the sorbitol-based cyclic carbonate (SC) with anhydrides including succinic anhydride, o-phthalic anhydride, and maleic anhydride. (Succinic anhydride-, o-phthalic anhydride-, and maleic anhydride-based cyclic carbonates were named SSC, PSC, and MSC, respectively.) The structures of SC, SSC, PSC, and MSC were characterized by 1H NMR and FTIR. Then, the novel sorbitol-based aqueous cyclic carbonate dispersion was prepared. It was found that SSC dispersion possessed excellent stability and its particle sizes ranged from 63 to 174 nm with −73.3 to −48.2 mV for the zeta potentials. A series of novel waterborne nonisocyanate polyurethanes coatings (WNIPU) were successfully prepared by sorbitol-based cyclic carbonate reacted with diamines. The effects of diamine categories and the molar ratios of isophorone diamine (IPDA) and hexamethylene diamine (HMDA) on the properties of WNIPU were studied. The results showed that the pencil and pendulum hardness of WNIPU coatings were all relatively decreased with the increase in HMDA contents. The WNIPU coatings exhibited excellent flexibility, adhesion, gloss, and impact resistance with the molar ratios of IPDA/HMDA ranging from 1:1 to 1:3. Moreover, cured films display good thermal stabilities with only 5% weight loss (T5%) in temperatures ranging from 246 to 272°C. Tension superficielleIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : This study shows that the drop volume and maximum bubble pressure technique can be used to determine the adsorption behavior and interfacial adsorption kinetics of surfactants at fluid interfaces. Using these tensiometric methods, it is possible to determine not only the interfacial tension of the pure phases, but also the critical concentration for the formation of micelles (c.m.c.) in a surfactant system, the quasi-static interfacial tension as a function of surfactant concentration, and the maximum adsorption density at the interface. The determination of the dynamic interfacial tension makes it possible to indirectly characterize the kinetics of surfactant adsorption. The time dependence of the interfacial coverage resulting from this adsorption process is well described by two approximation solutions (for short and long adsorption times), with the result that the diffusion coefficients calculated as a function of surfactant concentration using these two methods show good agreement. The droplet formation and dripping behavior of a surfactant solution in a capillary was found to vary significantly according to whether the process occurred in a gaseous or fluid medium. In particular, the formation of satellite droplets was different for the two different media, in terms of both the volume and shape of the satellite droplets. SorbitolIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Solubility properties of alkyd resins from phthalic and maleic anhydrides, glucitol and rubber seed oil (RSO) as raw materials were examined. Four types of glucitol-based medium oil length alkyd resins (ALKYD A–D, two for each acid anhydride) samples were formulated with phthalic anhydride, maleic anhydride, glucitol aqueous solution, and RSO. The physical, chemical, and film characteristics of the glucitol-modified alkyd resins were examined, and the result was compared with the standard alkyd resins and soybean-based alkyd resin. It was observed that all samples were soluble in xylene and butoxyethanol but not water. All of the samples have varying solubilities in water/xylene ratio (%) and complete solubility in water/butoxyethanol (%) ratio of 40:60, 50:50, and 60:40, respectively. ALKYD A is soluble in all solvents except water where it was sparingly soluble at room temperature. The spectral analysis revealed the polyesterification reaction and hydrogen-bonding integrity of the alkyd resins and the polybasic acid. The physical and chemical properties and the performance indices of the glucitol-based alkyd resin results show that they possess acceptable drying properties, chemical resistance, and mechanical properties. Performance of ALKYD A and C gave nearly the same result as the standard alkyd resins and soybean-based alkyd resin.
