In the membrane-forming process, the hydrophilic PHEMA chains are uniformly distributed on the surface, as revealed by the energy-dispersive X-ray tests. The sponge-like sub-layer embedded with droplet-shaped structures is formed at the cross-sections of membranes, because of the high viscosity of the casting solution. With the increase of copolymer concentration, the mean pore size of the blending membranes increases from 26.9 to 99.8 nm, leading to the increase of membrane flux from 93.6 to 205.4 l/(m2h). The incorporation of PAN-co-PHEMA copolymer endows the blending membrane with a rough surface microstructure and enhanced hydrophilicity. The rejection ratio of membranes for emulsified pump oil reaches 99.9%, indicating a prominent separation performance. In the cycle permeation experiments, the flux recovery ratio of the blending membranes is as high as 99.6%, which is much higher than those of PAN membrane. The irreversible fouling of blending membranes induced by oil adsorption is alleviated, and converted into reversible fouling, owing to the reduction of the adhesion force between foulant and membrane surface. These results suggest that the anti-fouling property of PAN membranes has been dramatically strengthened via the addition of PAN-co-PHEMA copolymer. Dopamine deposited on the surface of alumina membranes through immersion over time, and then crosslinking reaction occurred with polyethyleneimine (PEI), which was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It induced the modified layer coated on the membrane surface. Values of water contact angle of the modified alumina membranes were ~ 0° in air. Values of underwater oil contact angle reached 155°, which indicated it was superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic. More particles engendered with the increase in the reaction time with PEI, which induced the decrease in the pore sizes and permeation flux. All values of oil rejection were higher than 98.5%. No obvious deterioration of permeation flux could be found. The rejection hardly suffered a sharp decline over 800 min. It indicates that the modified layer can firmly stick to the alumina membranes. Therefore, the as-prepared alumina membrane is promising for practical oil/water separation.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A new form of hybrid binder has been developed in which the silica particles are more homogeneously distributed than in previous technologies. The binder reduces dirt pick-up and can also improve colour retention on exposure. Leaching of soluble components, giving rise to efflorescence and 'snail trails', is also reduced. Note de contenu : - Colour lends character to façades - while it lasts
- Hybrid binder has more homogeneous silica distribution
- Exposure test shows greatly reduced dirt pick-up
- Pigment stability can be improved
- 'Snail trails' due to leaching are reduced

(Wikipedia)

In the IGF project No. 19585 N, novel antifouling finishes for outdoor textiles, such as sails and awnings, were developed on the basis of cerium oxide nanomaterials (nanoceria). The project was carried out by the German Research Foundation (IGF), Cerium oxide nanorods or nanoparticles were immobilized onto the surface of textiles, which have the ability to generate messenger molecules of micro-organisms due to their haloperoxidase activity that induce antibacterial efficiency and inhibit the biofilm formation. Revêtements antigelIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Titanium alloy-based superhydrophobic surfaces have great advantages in terms of self-cleaning and corrosion resistance. To extend the application of titanium alloy, a multifunctional superhydrophobic TA2 titanium alloy was fabricated by anodic oxidation and chemical modification. Regular TiO2 nanotube arrays were obtained after anodic oxidation and completely covered by 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane. The water contact angle of superhydrophobic TA2 titanium alloy is as high as 153.4° ± 0.6°, and the contact angle of the surface shows good stability in different pH aqueous solutions and different concentrations of NaCl solutions. At −10 °C, the icing time of superhydrophobic TA2 titanium alloy surface can be extended to 4400 s. Furthermore, the superhydrophobic TA2 titanium alloy still maintains superhydrophobic properties when polished 70 times by sandpaper, indicating that the surface has good friction resistance. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results show that superhydrophobic TA2 titanium alloy with a Z′|f=0.01 Hz value of 84 kΩ cm2 has better corrosion resistance compared with the TA2 titanium alloy. These results indicate that the superhydrophobic composite film integrates multiple functions on the surface of TA2 titanium alloy, which greatly expands its application.
