Polymères aliphatiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Ultra Violet (UV) energy curing is one of the fastest crosslinking techniques used to dry coatings. UV curable coatings are also one of the most environmentally friendly coating systems as they are typically solvent-free (extremely low VOC/HAPS). Oligomers being almost 100% solids (ppm level solvent residues) have low to medium average molecular weights. Hence, they are liquid at room temperatures. Some oligomers contain some monomers to help reduce their viscosity, to make it easy for the formulator to handle them. However, some industry players do not believe UV curing is really a good solution for outdoor durable coatings. Hence, Miwon Specialty Chemical Co Ltd (MSC) decided to study the performance of some its aliphatic urethane acrylates under accelerated conditions to determine their durability. This paper discusses the tests and the performance that can be achieved when certain well-designed oligomers are exposed to harsh conditions. Note de contenu : - UV curing

Revêtements -- Séchage sous rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Direct-to-Metal (DTM) applications require reactive materials having the correct balance of physical properties including both flexibility and toughness. These features are necessary to ensure that the finished part will withstand the rigors of forming and process handling with scuffing and surface abrasion. Also the final coating must adhere to a wide variety of metal types that may have surface contamination that make adhesion a challenge.
This work will investigate and report the performance results of acrylated monomers and oligomers when subjected to typical end-use tests designed to measure the flexibility and adhesion characteristics of coatings. Oligomers having adhesion promoting characteristics will be tested alone or in combination with monomeric acid functional adhesion promoters to determine thebest type of oligomer to use for a given substrate.
Also the correct level of addition of the adhesion promoters will be determined to obtain optimum performance results. In addition moisture resistance will be explored as it relates to oligomer type.
Another significant development in the can manufacturing industry has involved the elimination of Bisphenol A (BPA) from coatings that are intended for food packaging applications. The performance benefits of polyester acrylate oligomers will be highlighted compared and contrasted to those of Bis A epoxy acrylate oligomer. Each of the formulations used in this study are in fact BPA free.Note de contenu : - Application and cure conditions

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Alkyl polyglucosides are non-ionic surfactants consisting of a hydrophilic saccharide moiety and a hydrophobic fatty alkyl chain. They are synthesized from renewable raw materials and have excellent ecotoxicological profiles and are readily biodegradable. The alkyl polyglucosides are mixtures of homologues, anomers and isomers. The alkyl polyglucosides with a longer alkyl chain biodegrade faster than those with a shorter one. The short to medium alkyl chain containing alkyl polyglucosides are water soluble. They exhibit favorable wetting and surface tension reduction, electrolyte and hard water tolerance, great stability in wide pH range, synergism with other surfactants and act as hydrotropes and dispersants. The dermatological, toxicological, mildness and high compatibility to skin make alkyl polyglucosides superior to all other existing surfactants. They show good functionality in various applications like detergents, food emulsifiers, cosmetic surfactants, industrial emulsifiers and pharmaceutical granulating agents.
