The sensor is based on the competitive adsorption of the surfactants and the fluorescently labeled protein to fullerenols – hydroxylated buckminsterfullerenes. The fluorescence quenching between fullerenols and the fluorochrome-labeled protein was detected and related to the replacement of the labeled protein by the surfactants. The non-ionic surfactants could be measured at sub to low micromolar concentrations whereas significantly higher concentration of ionic surfactants was required to efficiently cover the fullerenol surface. The combination of the novel fullerenol sensor with existing micro titer plate fluorometric instrumentation can find use as a versatile and rapid probe for tracing various types of surface active molecules. Titre : Interaction of mixture of anionic surfactants with collagen Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : J. Krejci, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 121-129 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Binding isotherms Collagen Mixture of surfactants Sodium dodecyl benzene sulphate Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Study focused on interaction of collagen fibres of collagen I with anionic surfactants sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate (SDBS), sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and their mixtures at pH = 6, at two ionic strengths (I = 0.06 mol L-1 and I = 0.4 mol L-1) and laboratory temperature. Surfactants and their mixtures were characterised by their critical micelle concentration (c.m.c.), composition of mixed micelles and interaction factor B according to Rubingh. Dependency of c.m.c. on mixture composition has an opposite tendency at both ionic strengths, which proves the greater influence of added electrolyte on behaviour of SDS than of SDBS. Interaction was evaluated by means of binding isotherms and mass swelling degree (alpha)m. The bound quantity partly depends on mixture composition, partly on ionic strength. SDS and mixtures containing its greater quantities are bound more than SDBS (approx. 150 % related to SDBS). Increased ionic strength of the environment increases bound quantity in approximately same manner, heedless of adsorbate composition. Even composition of the mixture after interaction with fibres does not markedly alter from initial composition. Fibre swelling is affected by composition of swelling mixture similarly to binding – it increases with growing quantity of surfactants. Greater ionic strength acts against collagen swelling, and at given ionic strength (I = 0.4 mol L-1) swelling attains half values compare to swelling at low ionic strength (I = 0.06 mol L-1). There are characteristic concentrations of both surfactants and their mixtures (cs 0.5 - 1.0 mmol L-1) that do not produce swelling. It is assumed that this range of concentrations corresponds to amount of surfactants bound to collagen through electrostatic forces and thus to temporary increase in fibre hydrophobity. In addition to kinetic experiments, conductivity measurements have also been done to obtain critical micelle concentration and other thermodynamic properties. The kinetic observations indicate fractional order and first order dependence, with respect to [Acetone] and [NBP] respectively. Cationic surfactant (CTAB) strongly catalysed the oxidation of acetone in aqueous acetic acid medium and typical kobs and [CTAB] profile was observed i.e. with the progressive increase in [CTAB], the reaction rate increased, at higher concentration constancy in kobs was observed, whereas anionic surfactant (SDS) was found to show no considerable effect on reaction rate. Mercuric acetate and phthalimide exhibited nil effect on the reaction rate. The presence of inorganic salts (KCl, KBr) exhibits positive effect in the reaction rate. The various activation parameters in presence of CTAB and SDS have been also evaluated. A suitable mechanism consistent with the experimental findings has been proposed. The binding constant with surfactants has been evaluated. DOI : 10.3139/113.110027 Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=6055
