Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : 'Asian skin' Caucasian 'Skin color' Ethnic differences' MED SPF Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The aim of this study was compare the SPF of three sunscreens (SPF 6/8-15/20-25/30) and 2 standars ( FDA,COLIPA fla P2), according to COLIPA recommendations, in panels of Asian (Singapore) and Caucasian (France) volunteers. Sixty male and female groups panelists were included in the test: two groups of Asians, defined according their color typology (as measured with a Chromameter: I.T.A.°:28-41° or 41-60°), and one group of Caucasians (I.T.A.°: 41-60°) in order to make a possible correlation with the light colored Asians.
Results showed statistically significantly higher SPF in the lighter Asian skin group (I.T.A.°:41-60°) compared to the Caucasian group with similar skin color for the sunscreens with SPF 15 and 30,whereas no significant difference was observed for FDA and COLIPA standards, not for the SPF 6/8 sunscreen.
These results show that differences in SPF between Asian and Caucasian skin exist. These differences are clearly present for the high SPF sunscreens and might not be only explained by skin color but also by other internal or external factors affecting skin response to UV.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10673

"Sun protection" initiated a multicenter study in accordance with the in vivo test protocol of the International Sun Protection Factor (SPF) Test Method. Three different amounts (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg/cm2) of three commercial sunscreens were investigated in three test centers. The main result obtained was a linear dependence of the SPF on the quantity applied. The recommendation to use an application quantity of 2.0 mg/cm2 is clearly driven by the aim to produce reliable and reproducible in vivo resluts. In the subsequent in vitro multicenter study, possible methodologies and strategies for improved accuracy of the determination of the SPF on sandblasted PMMA plates were compared. Influencing factors such as the amount of product applied, pretreatment of the samples, equilibration time and temperature, and the quality of the spectrophotometer were taken into account. An overall decrease in the standard deviations within single laboratories could be achieved for in vitro SPF testing but no improvement in the span of interlaboratory differences was obtained.
The complete findings obtained from this multicenter study could perhaps serve as a solid basis for increasing the reliability of a future in vitro SPF method.Note de contenu : - In vivo multicenter study

Titre : An in vitro evaluation of various Rosa damascena flower extracts as a natural antisolar agent Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : H. Tabrizi, Auteur ; S. A. Mortazavi, Auteur ; M. Kamalinejad, Auteur Année de publication : 2003 Article en page(s) : p. 259-265 Note générale : Bibliogr. Titre : Global regulations of sunscreens Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : David C. Steinberg, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 3-14 Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : 'Protection solaire' 'Regulations SPF 'Union européenne' 'Etats-Unis' Japon 'Canada' 'Australia' UVA UVB 'Résistance à l'eau' Labels Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : On June 1, 2006, the trade associations representing the personal care industry of the European Union, the U.S., Japan and South Africa agreed on an International Sunscreen Protection Method. What will this mean? Sunscreens are regulated throughout the world either as cosmetics, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs which do not require a governmental pre-approval or OTC drugs that require a pre-approval before they are placed on the market. Regardless of how they are regulated, all of these product regulations are very similar concerning sunscreens! Each country has a pre-approved list of permitted UV filters, an accepted method of running efficacy by SPF determination, and regulated labels. Some countries have approved methods for UVA claims and water-resistance testing. The latest changes are in Australia, where some sunscreens will be regulated as cosmetics based on SPF and claims, and Canada, where some sunscreens will be regulated as Natural Health Products depending on their actives! And now here comes a new variable, the harmonized SPF method.
What confusion! This paper will cover the different SPF test methods (Harmonized, Australia, and US-FDA) along with the formulations of reference standards, currently approved UVA methods, water-resistant testing, some labeling requirements and finally a brief review of cGMPs and other requirements for the U.S. It will have an update of the recent changes in regulations and cover the approved UV filters permitted in the U.S., EU, Japan, Canada and Australia as well as their maximum use level and correct ingredient designation. There is also a master cross reference list by INCI designation.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10423
