Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : 'Asian skin' Caucasian 'Skin color' Ethnic differences' MED SPF Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The aim of this study was compare the SPF of three sunscreens (SPF 6/8-15/20-25/30) and 2 standars ( FDA,COLIPA fla P2), according to COLIPA recommendations, in panels of Asian (Singapore) and Caucasian (France) volunteers. Sixty male and female groups panelists were included in the test: two groups of Asians, defined according their color typology (as measured with a Chromameter: I.T.A.°:28-41° or 41-60°), and one group of Caucasians (I.T.A.°: 41-60°) in order to make a possible correlation with the light colored Asians.
Results showed statistically significantly higher SPF in the lighter Asian skin group (I.T.A.°:41-60°) compared to the Caucasian group with similar skin color for the sunscreens with SPF 15 and 30,whereas no significant difference was observed for FDA and COLIPA standards, not for the SPF 6/8 sunscreen.
These results show that differences in SPF between Asian and Caucasian skin exist. These differences are clearly present for the high SPF sunscreens and might not be only explained by skin color but also by other internal or external factors affecting skin response to UV.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10673

Titre : Sensitive skin syndrome in Portugal - A concise (social and demographic) characterization of the portuguese reality Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Luis Monteiro Rodrigues, Auteur ; Lucilia Diogo, Auteur Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p. 107-110 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : 'Sensitive skin' 'Skin susceptibility' 'Social-demographic features' 'Descriptive study' 'Portuguese market' Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Reports from global markets suggest that the sensitive skin syndrome affects 50 % of the population. Since there is currently no information on this condition in a small market like that in Portugal, the authors designed this descriptive cross-sectional study to characterize this syndrome in this particular context.
Data was collected using a structured questionnaire in the community pharmacies chosen for the study. 333 questionnaires (n=333) were validated, and 46 % of the surveyed individuals described their skin as "sensitive". Responders were predominantly women, the face was the most frequently mentioned area of the body affected, and environmental factors and contact were reported as the main causes of sensitivity. A wide in responses to irritation and in the relationship with previous pathological conditions was also found. Thus, the social and demographic pattern found here agrees with patient-type profile previously reported for the sensitive skin syndrome.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=6100

Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Lipids 'Bound water' 'In-vitro skin' 'in-vivo-infrared spectroscopy' 'de-fatting' 'Lamellar cream' Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the skin and as such represents the decisive barrier between the body and the environment. The combination of horny cells and lamellar lipid layers prevents water loss from the body and protects it against penetration by exogenous substances. For selective investigation of the thin outermost stratum corneum layer, ATR-FTIR (attenuated-total-reflection-Fourier-transform-infrared) spectroscopy has proved itself in practice. It provides information about the sebum content, type of fatty substances, water content and degree of order of the lamellar lipid film in the stratum corneum. Complementary information is obtained by NIR-FT-Raman (near-infrared-Fourier-transform-Raman) spectroscopy, which is shown in comparison to infrared spectroscopy by scrutinizing in-vitro epidermis and full-skin models.
In cleansing processes a large part of the sebum is removed from the skin. The skin reacts to the de-fatting process by the rapid secretion of sebum. Cleansing with a mild facial cleansing emulsion de-fats the skin less than a surfactant shower gel. Skin creams cause alterations to the skin moisture and in the degree of order of the stratum corneum lipids. A lamellar cream with a structure similar to, but not identical to, that of the stratum corneum lipids increases the degree of order of the alkyl chains of the skin lipid film (biomimetic principle) while a conventional w/o cream reduces this degree of order Skin moisture increases after the use of the creams.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10724
