Revêtement -- Séchage:Peinture -- SéchageIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nearly everyone knows the situation : "You want to paint something at home and you've stil got an old started tin in the cellar ; you open it and straight away you see a thick skin on the surface". This skinning is typical for oxidation drying paints since they tend to crosslink in the container as the oxygen trapped in the tin reacts with the binding agent on the surface of the material. However with other paints, too, there are physical and/or chemical processes which lead to skinning at the wrong palce and the wrong time. Note de contenu : - Physical or chemical reaction

Spectroscopie de photoélectronsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy as an analysis tool for coatings --- This article is the second in a series focusing on surface analysis techniques for studying the surface composition of solid materials in automotive paint operations. The first, published in the january 2011, provided an overview of three techniques that will be covered in the series. Upcoming articles will detail Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). Together, these complementary methods can be used to resolve the majority of the technical questions that concern the surface chemistry of solid materials.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Due to their lower environmental impact, ease of accessibility, low cost, and biodegradability, bio-renewable sources have been used extensively in the last several decades to synthesize adhesives, substituting petrochemical-based adhesive. Vegetable oils (including palm, castor, jatropha, and soybean oils), lactic acid, potato starch, and other bio¬renewable sources are all excellent sources for the synthesis of adhesives that are being taken into consideration for the synthesis of "eco-friendly" adhesives. Due to their widespread use, accessibility, affordability, and biodegradability, biobased raw materials like carbohydrates used to synthesize wood and wood composite adhesive have gradually replaced petrochemical-based adhesives. Recently, xanthan gum, derived from a naturally occurring polymer, has drawn the interest of scientists as a potentially petroleum source replacement. lt possesses specific rheological characteristics, excellent water solubility, and stability to heat, and can be used as a binder, thickener, suspending agent, and stabilizer. Xanthan gum increases the adhesive strength in addition to increasing the viscosity of water-soluble adhesives. This article discusses xanthan gum as a potential substitute for traditional raw materials derived from petroleum that are used as a raw material for adhesives. Spectroscopie de photoélectronsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is widely accepted for the quantitative, chemical characterisation of surfaces, thin films and interfaces and is commonly used for both failure analysis and development of new coating systems. The performance of coatings is, in part, determined by the chemistry of the surfaces and interfaces involved. XPS allows the analyst to obtain chemical state information only from the top surface or interface region of the specimen.
This paper will include a description of the technique and the required instrumentation. It will go on to provide several relevant examples of its application to the coatings industry. Examples will be given in the area of coated glass and painted surfaces showing, in detail, the information available from this powerful technique.Note de contenu : - WHY IS SURFACE ANALYSIS NECESSARY ?
