By comparing silicone epoxy containing samples with bisphenol A controls, the effect of siloxane modification on the properties of the materials thus formed were tested. The coatings were formulated to typical automotive primer conditions (in the absence of any pigments) and tested for solvent resistance, lap shear strength, impact resistance, and thermal stability. The formation of IPNs was established by changes in the thermal behavior of the coatings as well as by the synergistic effects noted in the physical and mechanical properties achieved in the formulated coatings. In formation of the silicone modified IPNs, however, it was noted that cure response was diminished versus control. Therefore, we undertook a cure study to determine the effects of catalysts and trifunctional acrylates on the resultant properties in the IPN coatings. This paper describes the chemistries and formulations utilized in attaining the aforementioned properties.
ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Polycarbonate (PC)/cerium (IV) oxide (CeO2) composites are prepared by a melt-compounding method using a twin-screw extruder. The effect of the CeO2 content on the damping property of the composites was investigated using scanning electron microscopy, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In addition, the composites' mechanical properties were studied through tensile and impact tests. The DMA results revealed that the addition of CeO2 (0.5 wt%) improved the damping property of the composite. TGA showed that the thermal stability was improved when the CeO2 became 1 wt%. Mechanical tests revealed that both the tensile and impact strengths were substantially improved when 1 wt% CeO2 was added. Finally, it can be concluded that the 0.5 wt% CeO2-filled PC composite can be used as a structural damping material. Tolérance (technologie)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Few in the aerospace community will doubt the severity of barely visible impact damage (BVID) and the constraints it places on the fuel efficiency of the current generation of aircraft. However, the impact of BVID becomes even more pronounced when considered in the light of the stringent emission targets set out in ACARE 2050. This article presents a model developed at the University of Bath for predicting the residual strength of aircraft structures based on delamination growth caused by surface ply buckling/blistering: the Strip model.

Résistance au chocsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The mechanical properties of plastic compounds are an important quality criterion. At present, however, they can only be determined by laboratory measurements with a time delay. Online measurement procedures during compounding save time and prevent errors during the production process. A research project shows how the impact strength and hardness of the compound strand can be measured online. Note de contenu : - Online determination of material hardness
- Online measurement of impact strength
- Proof of online capability
- Foreign material clearly detected
- Fig. 1 : Illustration of the online measurement approaches and based on the standard measurements for shore hardness and Izod impact strength
- Fig. 2 : A laboratory granulator serves as the basis for the measurement demonstrator for online recording of impact strength. The pelletizer has been extended by a torque measuring point on the drive train
- Fig. 3 : Online measurement results of the demonstrator in relation to the results of the standardized reference measurement of th eIzod impact strength of different filament materials (same diameter and same mass temperatre) : there is a linear correlation between torque change and increasing impact strength
- Fig. 4 : Measuring demonstrator for online hardness determination : the pari of measuring rolls consists of a driven elliptical roll and a round counter roll. Depending on the hardness, the force is transmitted through the lon main axis of the ellipse to the axis of the round mating roll where it is measured
- Fig. 5 : The force changes measured online, plotted against the Shore A hardness values according to the manufacturer's specifications : the standard deviation result from the different strand diameters and temperatures. Nevertheless, the different soft TPE-S materials can be clearly assigned. The negative force amounts for the TPE material with 30 Shore A result from the fact that the forces transmitted by the strand are lower than the weight force of the round mating roll attached below the force sensor. This causes a tensile load on the sensor
- Fig. 6 : The force curve at the online hardness measuring stand over the test duration and, for online evaluation, the moving average value over 5s : the positive and negative deflections indicate the amterial change due to the foreign material. The base material was a TPE-S with a hardness of 70 Shore A. A test points 1 and 6 20g and 3g respectively of a TPE-S with 80 Shore A were added. The test points 2 and 5 (green dotted box) show the course after the addition of 20g and 3g respectively of a TPE-S with 50 Shore A. Test points 3 and 4 include the addition of 20g and 3g of pure PP material, respectively. All material changes generated in this way could be recorded online in the processEn ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1a5VoToAekBZFfvL3I7CipWcdlJAK7THi/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=33719
