ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The practical applications of poly (vinyl chloride) have been constrained due to its poor thermal stability, low dielectric constant and inability to shield against ultraviolet (UV) radiation. In this study, we tried to improve the optical properties, thermal stability, temperature-dependent electrical conductivity and dielectric constant using copper alumina (Cu–Al2O3) nanoparticles reinforced poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC). Optical absorption measured with an ultraviolet-visible (UV-visible) spectrometer emphasises the blueshift in absorption edges and decreasing bandgap energies of PVC/Cu–Al2O3 nanocomposites compared to PVC. The presence of Cu–Al2O3 in PVC and its interaction with the polymer were confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) demonstrates that nanocomposites have higher thermal stability than PVC, and that thermal stability increases with filler loading. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicates the homogeneous dispersion of nanosized Cu–Al2O3 in the polymer matrix. The activation energy determined by the Arrhenius equation revealed that AC conductivity increases with the addition of nanoparticles up to a specific loading. The dielectric constant increases as a function of temperature and decreases with frequency. The magnitude of AC conductivity and dielectric constant were highest for 7 wt% loaded nanocomposites. The dielectric constant predicted by the Bruggeman and Maxwell-Garnet models were in good agreement with the experimental permittivity. The semiconducting nature of nanocomposites was investigated by impedance analysis. The semi-circular nature of Cole-Cole plots manifests the combination of parallel capacitance with low bulk resistance. The enhanced optical, thermal, electrical and dielectric properties of PVC/Cu–Al2O3 nanocomposites can be utilized in fabricating optoelectronic devices with excellent charge-storing ability.

On distingue trois types.

Tannage Résumé : Vegetable tannins used in tanning of hides and skins are limited by surface reactions as well as large molecular weights, reducing penetration into the skin and lowering the thermal stability or tanning effect. Investigation into the utilization of small phenolic compounds such as catechin to improve penetration with subsequent in situ enzymecatalysed polymerization may provide a novel and alternative tanning agent. In this study, catechin was oxidized by enzymatic catalysis using laccase, with the polymerization confirmed by FT-IR and UHPLC. Tanning experiments were undertaken to measure the effect of laccase-catalysed polymerization of catechin in the thermal stabilization of collagen, i.e., the change in shrinkage temperature between the treated and untreated sample of hide powder (ÄTs). A factorial design was subsequently used to study process parameters that may affect enzymatic reactions: temperature, substrate concentration, enzyme concentration and incubation period. The statistically significant variables were found to be temperature and incubation period, and were thus chosen to be studied further for process optimization using response surface methodology. Maximum ÄTs can be obtained for a temperature of 34.6°C and incubation period of 25 hours. This study demonstrates that the stabilization of collagen (ÄTs) is increased with the use of enzyme-assisted polymerization. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : The study shows that by manipulating the polymer structure, it is possible to produce polyether polyol-based polyurethane reactive hot melt adhesive systems with green strengths, viscosity and melt stability properties comparable to polyester polyol-based systems.
Melt stability is affected by the final NCO content of the prepolymer and the temperature of application. Higher index allows for lower application temperatures, which is considered a desirable feature by the adhesive user due to industrial hygiene concerns.
For the purposes of this study, tack free times were faster than what is normally expected, but it should be noted that this work was carried out on prepolymers without any further formulation additives. The adhesive manufacturer can manipulate this variable to some extent by using tackifiers.Note de contenu : - Green strength

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Developing intumescent fire-retardant coatings (IFRCs) combining superior smoke suppression and water resistance is crucial for their industrial applications. Herein, novel 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO)-decorated zirconium phosphate (ZrP-D) nanosheets are synthesized and employed in the IFRCs. The ZrP-D nanosheets feature multifunctionality, which simultaneously improve the fire resistance, smoke suppression, thermal stability and water tolerance of IFRCs. Notably, introducing 3wt% ZrP-D decreases the backside temperature of IFRC from 293.9 to 166.3°C by ~ 43.4% in fire resistance test, followed by 47.9%, 33.5% and 89.4% reductions in peak heat release rate, total heat release and total smoke release. Moreover, this IFRC exhibits improved thermal stability and water tolerance, of which char yield and water contact angle reach up to 64% and 82.7°, respectively. When exposed to high-temperature flame, the ZrP-D nanoplatelets mainly function in condensed phase, which significantly increases the expansion and compactness of residual char due to the barrier and catalytic charring effects, thus suppressing the heat release and smoke diffusion. This work provides a rational design for creating intumescent fire-retardant coatings combining smoke suppression and water resistance, thus possessing broad prospects in industry. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In recent years, the chemical industry is not only striving to produce the best possible products for various applications, but the new products should ideally be based on renewable resources. The ideal case of "cradle to cradle" is generally not achievable in the coatings industry, as maximizing product life and preventing product degradation in the environment is usually one of the main goals of the coatings industry. Therefore, if the coatings industry wants to act sustainably, its efforts should be focused on renewable raw materials. This paper presents a process that makes the renewable raw material phytic acid easily accessible for conventional epoxy and polyol resin coating systems through hydrophobization- and oligomerization. Phytic acid, as a phosphorus reservoir in plants and with beneficial properties for corrosion protection and as a flame retardant, could be a new base for various coatings. In this work, a simple one-pot oligomerization of phytic acid with green mono- and difunctional alcohols is investigated. The aim of this work is to create a phytic acid hardener system based on renewable raw materials that can produce coatings with solvent-based epoxy and polyol binders as well as water-based epoxy binders. The successful reaction was observed by infrared, 1H-NMR, and 31P-NMR spectroscopy and the acid equivalent weight was determined by conductivity titration. The renewable curing agent was then used equivalently with different binder systems to prepare coatings. Crosslinking and glass transition temperature were monitored using oscillatory rheology. The coatings were applied to glass plates and the pendulum hardness was measured. A simple heating test followed by 31P-NMR and IR spectroscopy was also performed to demonstrate the stability of phytic acid under reaction conditions.
