The copolymers were characterised by infra-red (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The molecular weights of the copolymers were determined by gel permeation chromatographic technique. Their thermal stability was studied using thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Standard Yellow Iron Oxides are the ideal inorganic pigments to develop a wide range of color shades due to the advantages in performance and cost provided by their high hiding power and opacity, excellent weather, light and chemical fastness and reduced price. But their use in high temperature cured Coatings such as coil, powder or stoving paints is limited. Why ?
When Yellow Iron Oxides are submitted to high temperatures, their goethite structure (FeOOH) dehydrates and partially turns into hematite (Fe203), which is the crystal structure of Red Iron Oxides. This is why the standard Yellow Iron Oxide existing before curing becomes darker and browner (Picture 1).
This change can already take place from temperatures close to 160°C depending on the curing time, the binder system and the Coating formulation itself.Note de contenu : - NUBIOLA'S HEAT RESISTANT INORGANIC PIGMENTS : Zinc ferrites, nubifer K series - Heat resistant yello iron oxide, nubifer Y-7050

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In an attempt to improve the toughness and flexibility of poly(epoxy-urethane-acrylic), interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) coatings conventional bisphenol A type epoxy was replaced with silicone containing epoxy. By comparing silicone epoxy containing samples with bisphenol A controls, the effect of siloxane modification on the properties of the materials thus formed were tested. The coatings were formulated to typical automotive primer conditions (in the absence of any pigments) and tested for solvent resistance, lap shear strength, impact resistance, and thermal stability. The formation of IPNs was established by changes in the thermal behavior of the coatings as well as by the synergistic effects noted in the physical and mechanical properties achieved in the formulated coatings. In formation of the silicone modified IPNs, however, it was noted that cure response was diminished versus control. Therefore, we undertook a cure study to determine the effects of catalysts and trifunctional acrylates on the resultant properties in the IPN coatings. This paper describes the chemistries and formulations utilized in attaining the aforementioned properties.
