Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : What does the simulation of a diffusion process have to do with the simulation of a temperature field ? Simply put, they share the same differential equation. This property can be exploited in such a way that diffusion processes can be simulated with the aid of finite element programs. Such numerical simulation vividly reveals how such processes take place and how water absorption can influence the design of molded plastics. Note de contenu : - Change in mechanical properties
- Standards and guidelines
- Analogy between diffusion and heat transfer
- Validation illustrated with the example of a plate
- Demonstrator part - An open housing
- Figure : Test setup and simulation: How does a component behave after three years of water absorption? A simulation quickly provides information, e. g. about water saturation, deformation and (in the figure on the right) the von Mises equivalent stress
- Fig. 1 : Water absorption of polyamide 66 over time when aged in 40 °C warm water according to : The change in water absorption over time varies with the thickness of the specimen, but the saturation value remains the same. A simulation conducted on a specimen thickness of 2 mm shows good agreement with the experimental curve
- Fig. 2 : FE model of the demonstrator: The meshing was carried out with ten hexahedral elements across the wall thickness. The more elements provided across the thickness, the better the transient diffusion process can be modeled. The simulations were carried out on a quarter model with symmetry boundary conditions
- Fig. 3 : True stress-strain curves for PA66 at 20 °C : As the water content increases, the rigidity and strength of the material decrease
- Fig. 4 : Water saturation, deformation and stress over time (shown as a quarter model) : Maximum deformation occurs after 116 days, while maximum stress in the steady state occurs only after 1157 days

Special attention was paid to the order of addition of poly(acrylic acid) and ethyl(hydroxyethyl) cellulose, because this has an effect on the adsorption of the polymers onto the TiO2 pigment. The order of addition also affects the rheological properties of the mill base dispersion and the gloss of the paint. The gloss was also affected by the surfactant used to stabilize the latex. Higher gloss was obtained using a nonionic surfactant than with an anionic surfactant Note de contenu : - PAINT INGREDIENTS-ADSORBENTS AND ADSORBATES

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This paper describes an investigation into mechanical and thermal properties of aramid foam, a novel development by Teijin Aramid BV. Preliminary tests showed that this specific foam material allowed the manufacture of a co-consolidated carbon-PEKK sandwich panel. Following this promising start, a number of tests were performed on this foam to establish moisture absorp¬tion, chemical resistance and strength and stiffness properties. In general it can be stated that the thermal stability of the mate-rial was above the requirements for thermoplastics manufacturing and promising fire, smoke and toxicity characteristics were found. The project was concluded with design and manufacture of a scaled winglet demonstrating the potential of creating complex shaped sandwich parts with a thermoplastic facing. Polyamide 66

TempératureIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Electromobility in particular, but also many other electrical applications, are asking for ever higher demands regarding the electrical properties of thermoplastics. This raises the question of whether the polymers commonly used in this area can still meet these demands. The plastics manufacturer, Lanxess, has now investigated how suitable, for example, polyamide and polybutylene terephthalate are for use at higher voltages and temperatures. Note de contenu : - More stringent demands, particularly in electromobility
- Temperature influences the volume resistivity
- Is the high moisture absorption of PA a problem ?
- High electric strength, smaller components
- High tracking resistance becoming increasingly important
- CTI measurements at above 600 V make no sense
- Guideline for component design at higher voltages
- Fig. 1 : High-voltage connectors are a typical application for PA6, PA66 and PBT compounds
- Fig. 2 ; Temperature dependence of the volume resistivity of glass fiber-reinforced PA6 and PBT compounds: the volume resistivity of PBT drops less sharply than that of polyamide at higher temperatures
- Fig. 3 : Dependence of the volume resistivity on the moisture content, taking the example of a PA6-GF30 (Durethan BKV30H3.0) : the higher the moisture content, the lower the resistivity. The volume resistivity after moisture absorption drops more sharply at room temperature than at higher temperatures
- Fig. 4 : Temperature dependence of the electric strength of glass fiber-reinforced PA6 and PBT compounds : PBT exhibits practically no change over the whole temperature range. With PA, however, a significant drop is to be observed above approx. 80 °C
- Fig. 5 : Dependence of the electric strength on the specimen thickness for a PA6-GF30 (Durethan BKV30H3.0) at room temperature: the electric strength decreases sharply with increasing thickness. This is attributable in particular to the better heat dissipation with small wall thicknesses
