Revêtements multicouchesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In multilayer automotive coating systems, it is often the e-coat layer which degrades under weathering, leading to coating failure and corrosion. photo-oxidation index (POI) measurements on multi-coat systems showed that the POI of the e-coat increases during artificial weathering. This degradation process is influenced by both UV and thermocatalytic effects, so dark coatings increase e-coat degradation. Note de contenu : - Analysing photochemical degradation

Revêtements multicouchesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Multi-layer Packaging Films - With the help of a computer simulation it is possible to visualize the effects of the targeted positioning of functional materials and different sealing media on film flexural strength. Results for specimen systems show that ionomers, which have stiffnesses that can be adjusted within broad limits as well as very good sealing properties, offer a wide range of opportunities to reduce the thickness of such multi-layer films without at the same time having to accept a loss in flexural strength. ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Zinc-rich primers have been well studied, yet specifying inorganic (IOZ) or organic zinc (OZ) for three-coat systems remains a highly debated topic. During the 1960s and 1970s inorganic zincs became the dominant primer in North America and published literature shows IOZ outperforming OZ in three-coat systems. The study presented in this article focuses on evaluating two variables within the traditional ZEU system that could impact performance — zinc-rich primer type (i.e., inorganic or organic) and topcoat chemistry. Traitement rouleau à rouleauIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Many technical textiles today are multi-layer coated for special effects. Typical examples are black-out fabrics for blinds, awnings, tarpaulins, architectural fabrics etc. Furthermore, newly smart textiles often need numerous layers of conductive and non-conductive materials as well as protective barriers. However, processing multi-layer coatings on textile surfaces currently requires multiple occupancy of the usual coating machine and subsequent conventional hot-air dryer. This is not only time consuming but also very energy-intensive, as each layer is separately dried with hot air.
For this reason, research was focused on 2 different aspects :
- Developing a roll-to-roll (R2R) process for the application of water-based layers with knife or slot-die coating in a modular machine concept.
- Developing Near-Infra-Red (NIR) emitter modules for immediate drying of each coated layer without effecting the textile base material.Note de contenu : - Application of aqueous layers

VanillineIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The demands of the marine industry for functional coatings are diversified : From corrosion protection of the ship's hull, through to anti fouling characteristics and reduced friction with the aim to save fuel and improve a vessels performance. Furthermore, new environ mental regulations regarding antifouling coating systems require the elimination of toxins release, which led to the development and adoption of new more environmentally friendly technologies. Consequently, the present research proposes a multifunctional coating system, exploiting nanotechnology and biotechnology, in order to meet the antifouling and anticorrosion requirements of the marine industry. Three innovative, environmentally friendly coating systems were developed exploiting the properties of functionalised nanoclays, treated nanosilicas and novel ecologically compatible anti-microbial reduced adhesion agent based on natural su bstances. These coatings are based on unique cross proprietary patented technologies and can be integrated to give a multifunctional and multilayer protection system.
