Fibres de carbone -- RecyclageIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) are classified as materials with high development potential. CFRP has exceptional properties such as high stiffness and strength combined with low density. However, recovery of the carbon fibers from the surrounding matrix is difficult. Currently, industrial recycling is mainly carried out by pyrolysis. A biotechnological recycling process would be a complementary alternative. The feasibility of such a process was investigated on the basis of the metabolic activity of specific microorganisms that are able to recycle such complex materials. Vêtements de compressionIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Within the framework of the IGF project, the ITM has succeeded in developing and implementing innovative compression textiles made of a new type of yarn with shape memory effect (SMY), which can be put on with significantly less effort compared to commercial products. The special feature is that the integrated SMY causes the compression textile to contract only when heat is applied after donning, thus gradually building up the compression effect. This makes e.g. stockings significantly easier to put on, which will increase the acceptance of compression therapy. For the prompt transfer of the research results into industrial practice and thus into commercial products, the manufacturing technologies already established in the German textile industry were addressed. Therefore, suit-able SMY were implemented by means of melt spinning technology and the compression textiles by flat knitting technology, for which the necessary technological and product preparation know-how was provided especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The simple machine production and the Ovide range of applications quickly established knitwear as a mass product. Quality played a subordinate role. It was only with the advent of technical textiles that the "value side" of knitwear was born. In particular, the 3-dimensional (3D) possibilities of the textile made it possible to reproduce properties that had previously been denied to normal structures, such as spacer fabrics in mattress covers or handle plush in car headliners. Today, knitted fabrics can be found in modem sports shoes as well as in artificial leather applications or geotextiles. Note de contenu : - Uniform fabric and correct thread density

Textiles et tissus à usages techniquesIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : The quality of composite systems made of cords of high-strength fibers such as polyester, aramid or polyamide and matrix materials of rubber is largely determined by the adhesion properties of the fibers to the matrix. In the established manufacturing process, adhesion promoters made of resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) are used to improve the adhesion properties. Researchers at the DITF are showing ways to replace the harmful formaldehyde with technically equivalent substances that are harmless to health. TissageIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Auxetic fabrics are characterized by a negative Poisson's ratio, i.e. they expand transversely to the direction of loading under tensile load. As a structural element in composites, multilayer or 3-dimensional (3D) auxetic fabrics improve the impact strength and increase the energy absorption capacity. Textile materials are basically flexible. The deformation properties of fabrics are influenced by the fabric architecture. Due to the numerous advantages of auxetics, it is being investigated how auxetic structures can be introduced into the fabric architecture in such a way that the fabrics exhibit transversal auxetic behavior. Textiles et tissus à usages techniquesIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : According to WasserStiftung, Munich/Germany, 1.2 billion people do not have safe access to a spring, well or piped system with clean water. In 2025, this numberwill rise to 2.3 billion people. No raw material is as important as water, and access to clean water is a human right. The fact that it is unequally distributed around the world leads to conflicts, which are exacerbated by increasing desertification as a result of climate change. The problem exists primarily in developing countries. There, centralized water supply systems are often not feasible for technical and logistical reasons, or connecting remote settlements, such as those on islands or at high altitudes, is uneconomical. Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Having trouble hearing ? Just turn up your shirt. That is the idea behind a new "acoustic fabric" developed by engineers at the Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology (MIT), Cambridge, MA/USA, and collaborators at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Providence, RI/USA. The team has designed a fabric that works like a microphone, converting sound first into mechanical vibrations, then into electrical signais, similarly to how the human ears hear. All fabrics vibrate in response to audible sounds, though these vibrations are on the scale of nanometers — far too small to ordinarily be sensed. To capture these imperceptible signais, the researchers created a flexible fiber that, when woven into a fabric, bends with the fabric like seaweed on the ocean's surface. Vêtements de travailIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Protective welding clothing must meet various requirements. Among other things, it must be flame-resistant, protect the welder against splashes of metal or sparks and also ensure protection against radiant heat and UV light caused by the exposure to the welding arc. The protection against molten metal splashes is directly related to the fabricweight per unit area of the protective welding clothing and the level of protection is normally determined by the numbers of molten metal droplets that fall on the fabric. The higher the weight per unit area, the greater the protection against welding spalter. However, increasing the fabric weight per unit area also leads to psychologically uncomfortable wearing and thus increasing the physical strain on the wearer. The required basis weight per unit area of protective welding clothing can be reduced by applying nanoparticles as a protective layer while preserving other indispensable properties. - Fig. 2 : Schematic representation of a drop of molten iron on fabrics with (right) and without nanostructured surface (left). In the case with nanostructured surface, it is clear that the contact area between the drop of iron (Fe) and the fabric is reduced, and that a thermally insulating air layer is created underneath (free area between the grey particles). In the case of fabrics without coating, the iron directly contacts the fiber and can thus transfer more heat while causing more damage to the material

Traitement rouleau à rouleauIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Many technical textiles today are multi-layer coated for special effects. Typical examples are black-out fabrics for blinds, awnings, tarpaulins, architectural fabrics etc. Furthermore, newly smart textiles often need numerous layers of conductive and non-conductive materials as well as protective barriers. However, processing multi-layer coatings on textile surfaces currently requires multiple occupancy of the usual coating machine and subsequent conventional hot-air dryer. This is not only time consuming but also very energy-intensive, as each layer is separately dried with hot air.
For this reason, research was focused on 2 different aspects :
- Developing a roll-to-roll (R2R) process for the application of water-based layers with knife or slot-die coating in a modular machine concept.
- Developing Near-Infra-Red (NIR) emitter modules for immediate drying of each coated layer without effecting the textile base material.Note de contenu : - Application of aqueous layers

This can be counteracted by developing tailor-made fabrics that exhibit the required local forming capacity in individual sub-areas. For the design and implementation of these tailored weaves, a CAE process chain was validated and a novel ORW system was developed in terms of design technology. Note de contenu : - Modelling

Vêtements de protectionIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : The requirements for textiles differ greatly depending on the area of application, whereby it often does not remain with only one required functionality. For example, in the field of functional clothing or protective clothing/PPE, it is necessary to protect the textile's wearers from UV radiation. At the same time, self-cleaning effects offer certain advantages in that field. In addition, an antimicrobial effect in functional clothing can reduce the formation of unpleasant odors, and in PPE — especially in the healthcare sector — can contribute to the interruption of the chain of infection. One way to achieve these 3 desired functions in just one finishing step is to immobilize titanium dioxide (Ti02). However,TiO2 is viewed critically for application in the textile sector due to a REACH listing. Another disadvantage is that it only takes effect under UV radiation and is therefore not suitable for indoor use. Alternatively, photocatalysts such as doped zinc oxides (ZnO) can be used, which also exhibit catalyticactivity through activation by visible light, which can lead to the killing of microorganisms and the degradation of organic soiling.
