Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Formulators are required to comply with increasingly stringent VOC regulations and, at the same time, maintain the performance characteristics expected from the coating system. Traditionally, there have been three ways to reduce VOCs in coatings: by moving toward waterborne formulations, making higher solids coatings, or using “exempt” solvents. Waterborne technology greatly reduces the VOC content, but commonly lags behind the performance of solventborne coatings, while high solid systems are typically less economical per gallon. Systems containing exempt solvents can only be used from a regulatory point of view in specific areas of the globe. In order to overcome these challenges, we developed a new set of polyester polyols with low room temperature viscosities that reduce VOC content in coating formulations and provide excellent coating characteristics. This work demonstrates the use of these polyols in 2K polyurethane solventborne low VOC systems and describes their performance characteristics in preventative maintenance and floor coatings. This paper includes discussion of the adhesion to various metals and plastics, extended weatherability performance and starting point formulations. Vanadate de bismuthIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Bismuth vanadate pigments offer high performance but can be bleached by alkalis. So far there is no agreed test method for this, and colour change has been evaluated subjectively against the Grey Scale. A new test method uses pigments in an appropriate paint and provides accurate and repeatable measurements expressed as CieLab colour shifts. VerreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Glass flakes outperform traditional platelet-like fillers in corrosive and chemically aggressive environments. One of the main areas of glass flake application is barrier coatings where glass flakes are recommended for use as a replacement for MIO and other platelet-like fillers. Thinner grades of glass flake are feasible for application as an alternative to thicker grades. Moisture vapour transmission test and cathodic disbondment test results are used for the characterisation of coating performance.
Early glass flakes and coatings were somewhat crude. The flakes being hugely variable in thickness and plate size, the coatings being simple trowel or brush applied materials basically designed as a glass fibre composite layer but with glass flake substituting for fibres.
A lot of research has been done into the comparison of glass flake to alternative fillers in the 1980-90s but this was done when commercially available glass flake was still crude. Since then, the technology has evolved and in this article the authors analysed the feasibility of using thinner flake in barrier coatings.Note de contenu : - Morphology and chemical resistance
