Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper aims to fabricate new superhydrophobic nanocomposite coating materials to protect the inner surfaces of the petroleum pipelines from corrosion. The batch emulsification polymerization technique (BEM) was used as a facial eco-friendly technique to prepare three hydrophobic (styrene/vinyl acetate) copolymers. The sol–gel method was used to prepare SiO2 nanoparticles (SiO2-NPs) with average size ranging from 90 to 101 nm. The functionalized SiO2-NPs were prepared using hexadecyl trimethoxy silane (HDTS) as a precursor to increasing the hydrophobicity character of the unfunctionalized SiO2-NPs. Three superhydrophobic [(styrene/vinyl acetate copolymer/functionalized SiO2 nanoparticles (SiO2NPs)] nanocomposites denoted as M1, M3, and M5 were fabricated by incorporating 1, 3, and 5 wt% of the functionalized-SiO2NPs into the styrene/vinyl acetate copolymer, respectively. The effectiveness of the fabricated nanocomposite coating materials was analyzed using contact angle measurement and transmission electron and atomic force microscopies. The results showed that the highest contact angle of 161.21o was obtained by M5-nanocomposite. The highest corrosion efficiency of 99.63% was obtained at 300 ppm concentration of M5-nanocomposite-coated solution, 298 K, and 24 days. Clay-particle-stabilized styrene–acrylic copolymer emulsion was prepared by a seeded semibatch emulsion polymerization process. The effect of the concentrations of clay, peptizing agent, and methacrylic acid on the processing, final particle size, and coagulum of the emulsion polymer was studied. Dynamic light scattering (DLS), dynamic mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and field-emission-gun scanning electron microscopy techniques were employed to characterize the emulsion polymers. The kinetics of polymerization were monitored based on the percentage solid conversion, and particle size (DLS) analysis suggested a homogeneous coagulative mechanism. The zeta potential of the polymer particles indicated good stability of the emulsion. A stable, coagulum-free, low particle size (~ 300 nm) emulsion was prepared using clay platelets, and the polymer film exhibited improved thermal and mechanical properties that will make this type of emulsion polymer of great use for coating applications. Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of model styrene (St)/n-butyl acrylate (BA) copolymer latexes with glass transition temperatures below room temperature were prepared by either conventional or miniemulsion polymerization techniques as model systems for studies of film formation. The functional monomer TMI® (META) (dimethyl meta-isopropenyl benzyl isocyanate) was used as a functional monomer/crosslinking agent. A small amount of methacrylic acid (MAA) was introduced in some formulations to enhance the crosslinking reactions. A redox initiation system was used to reduce premature crosslinking during the polymerization. A combination of an ionic surfactant (sodium lauryl sulfate) and co-surfactant (hexadecane or cetyl alcohol) was used as the mixed emulsifier for the miniemulsion system.
This paper describes the performance of TMI as a crosslinking agent and the effects of the combination of TMI and MAA on the latex film formation process.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Miniemulsification - Polymerization - Evaluation methods

StyrèneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper describes the synthesis, characterization, and some applications of flame-retardant dibromostyrene grafted latexes. These latexes are synthesized by an emulsion polymerization technique. One of the prime factors to be considered in the choice of a commercial latex or a latex blend to be grafted is the glass transition temperature(s) of the polymer(s) in the final latex desired. The graft latexes were characterized in terms of glass transition temperature, solids content, bromine content, grafted dibromostyrene content, and flame retardancy. They are useful for a wide range of applications, including fabric backcoatings, carpetings, paints, adhesives, sealants, caulks, nonwoven binders, etc. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Characterization
