The aim was to assess the effect of encapsulation concerning UVB filter release from the MPs and its photochemical stability.
- Methods : The EHMC photostability was analysed by exposing the samples (both MPs in aqueous dispersion and incorporated in a cream preparation) during 1 h to simulated solar light. For the MPs (empty-MP, EHMC-MP and EHMC + Vit.E-MP), the morphology and size were characterized ; while in the case of the encapsulated samples, the amount of EHMC-loading was determined. The release of EHMC was evaluated by adding EHMC-MP or EHMC + Vit.E-MP to 65% ethanol in water under mechanical stirring at 32°C.
- Results : All MPs showed a homogeneous size distribution with a median of 90.5 ± 2.5 µm for EHMC-MP and 70.4 ± 1.14 µm for EHMC + Vit.E-MP. The encapsulation efficiency was 92.9% and 99.4% for EHMC-MP and EHMC + Vit.E-MP, respectively. The observed release from the MPs was lower than the dissolution of the pure UV filter. EHMC-MP and EHMC + Vit.E-MP were successfully incorporated into a cream formulation, with no evidence of phase separation or colour modification. Upon simulated light exposure, the photoisomerization/phototransformation of EHMC encapsulated in MPs and Vit.E-MP decreased as compared to free EHMC, both in aqueous dispersion and as a cream. The conformational ratio of the isomers (Z-/E-EHMC) was found to be the lowest in the presence of Vit.E.
- Conclusion : This work demonstrates that use of these alginate microparticulate carriers could enhance the effectiveness of sunscreen preparations containing this UVB filter.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : materials - Microparticles production - Microparticles freeze drying - EHMC assay - Microparticles characterization - Cream preparation - Photostability - Statistical analysis

Because these materials are relatively expensive, a 2-phase lubricant system consisting of a POM core with a highly-filled PTFE surface layer seems practical. The first part of this study focuses on the mechanisms of action and the saving potentials of such a system. Note de contenu : - Material selection and compatibility

- FIGURES : 1. With an increasing content of solid lubricant, the mechanical properties of slide-modified (PTFE) POM products are reduced. The values were determined with an injection molded rod in a tensile test according to DIN EN ISO 527 -2. An initial wear is required to enable a self-lubricating layer to be formed. This is shown by the three-stage progression of the friction coefficient of POM with a 20% PTFE filing versus PE-UHMW (v=0.33m/s, p=0.22N/mm2) - 3. The scanning electron microscope image of PTFE microparticles in a POM matrix shows that the additive particles are not chemically bonded with the plastic matrix, but are located on top - 4. Structural analysis of flow conditions and shear speeds in the mold. The dimensions were determined on specific samples. The layer thicknesses depend on flow and cooling conditions, and can vary, depending on manufacturer parameters - 5. The 2-phase lubricant system is intended to form and anti-friction coating betweenbase and sliding body - 6. The surface layer - as highly filled with PTFE as possible - is of primary importance for slide modification. Rhéologie
SédimentationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Paint rheology is understood to play a vital role in both product performance and customer acceptance. Consequently, the ability to formulate paints having the necessary flow properties is essential for paint technologists. Experienced formulators have said that as much as half the cost of new product development can be consumed in getting the rheology right. In fact, the quality-control viscosity measurement devices in everyday use in the development laboratory are of little help in this endeavor. Among other shortcomings, most such instruments apply shear stresses which are far from those involved in important coating flow processes. The rheological properties required for a successful coating must be defined with due regard to the prevailing conditions of stress involved in application and film formation. This requires that measurements should be taken over a wide range of shear stress and timescales. The task for the applied rheologist is to bridge rheology and technology, but it is often unclear how to connect rheological data with the “real-world” performance of paints, due to the complexity of coating flows. This review in part discusses the use of controlled-stress rheometry to characterize coatings, and presents ways of applying the results effectively to the analysis of paint flow. The methodology is fundamental but not unduly time-consuming, since the objective is to provide sound yet timely guidance to formulators. Thirteen commercial semigloss latex paints were analyzed rheologically to develop correlations to paint performance. Using the method of shear stress mapping, key regions of the non-equilibrium flow curve are identified for the control of paint flow processes. With this approach, simple but strong correlations were obtained of paint flow metrics to viscosity chosen at the relevant stresses. The fact of high correlation means one can expect that an appropriate viscosity adjustment will correspondingly improve performance. It is argued that shear stress, not shear rate, is the correct independent variable both for experimentation and for the graphical presentation and analysis of viscosity data. The yield stress parameter, particle flocculation, and sedimentation are also discussed, and an oscillatory shear method of direct measurement of yield stress is described.
Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Materials - Organogel preparation - Preparation of aqueous gelled nanoparticle dispersions - Rheological measurements - Particle size and zeta-potential analysis - Freeze-drying procedure - Transmission electron microscopy - Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) - Stability assessment - Ultraviolet irradiation - UV absorbance and in vitro sun protection factor determination - Water resistance experiment - Synthesis of 2-ethylhexyl-p-dimethylaminobenzoate DOI : 10.1111/ics.12131 En ligne : http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ics.12131 Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=21806
